Immediate past Chief of Defence staff, Alex Badeh is not done talking about the lack of equipment in the Nigerian army. In an interview with Channels TV, Alex Badeh said the last time the Nigerian army received new equipment was in 2006 and that the Nigerian military flies the oldest fighter jets in the whole world. He's now saying all this after he was removed as Chief of Defence Staff. I see!

"We found out that we had fifth columnist in the military that were leaking information to terrorist and then we also had challenges of serviceable equipment. If I go down memory lane, I think the last time any piece of equipment was bought for the Nigerian army was in 2006 and how many were they? They were few. In fact they were few and if we go way back to 1993, from then on, soldiers were not allowed to even go to range to go and practice. So a soldier that is not practicing how to use his gun, what kind of military are you going to have? So those were the challenges we had so when we were faced with Boko Haram, it became a very big challenge. We have been trying to increase the military by ourselves. You don't give me budget and say go and build barracks. Barracks is capital intensive. So even if we recruit so many people in the military now, we don't have where to house them. So it is a challenge too that government must face. Government must build barracks for us so that we can recruit more. For a population of over 170 million, what we have in Nigeria can not be adequate enough to protect us So those were the challenges we had. Inadequate equipment, obsolete equipment. In fact we are the ones that are flying the oldest fighter aeroplanes in the whole world. Alpha jets we bought them in 1981. That is the backbone of our operations in the Northeast" he said

This man should be locked up.

He was part of the problem of Nigeria with Boko Haram. My take is that, those Nigerian Soldiers court martial-led should be released, and people like this that refuse to arm them be put in jail.

Buhari is working.

So the question is what has the GEJ administration done with the billions of dollars they claim to have spent on the millitary

I know it wasn't spent on the soldier's welfare....... so what exactly was it used for?

And his Naval counterpart says Navy had their own in the 70s. When asked by the anchor what about the naval ship GEJ commissioned he said one of the Ships was 30years old.

Jonathan was lying during his campaign telling gullible Nigerians that his government has been the only one which has bought ammunitions to fight terrorism.

Buhari is working.

I support your call for him to be imprisoned. I cannot understand his stupid logic. He was Chief of Defense staff. After reading his response, I shake my head. He should be probed.

Chisos. However, I still blamed the military chiefs. Why stay on, why not resign. They are worried on how posterity will remember them because they are going to be probed and their names rubbished. They were the womanizing, pub drinking military chiefs that sent their soldiers to die whilst they drank to stupor.

Ur a third world country n therefore u can't afford modern military gadgets, some single modern warships costs as much as 2 billion dollars.

Also Dnt expect powerful countries to give u weapons dat u can use n challenge dem 2moro. u will only receive decommissioned war machines. Better build ur own.

Keep underestimating Nigeria. This is a country where 20billion dollars grew legs one hot afternoon and walked away from her treasury and nobody knew anything strange happened. Nigeria can afford any type of modern military equipment in the world but Mr. Corruption won't permit her.

I remember how some Wailers tried to force some phantom figures and pictures as regards the great purchases Jonathan had made down our throats during the campaigns.

This is one of his right hand men speaking. I would like to see how the League of Wailers would put a spin on this.

Nigerians couldn't have done anything better than kicking that man back to the village.

You are obsessed with Buhari

Since Badeh knew that what is stopping him from engaging the soldiers and sharpening their skills.

This is what former Chief of defence staff Alex Badeh said on January 21 2015 after some soldiers were arrested for mutiny :

"We live in houses we don't pay for. We don't pay for accommodation. We have buses that bring troops to work everyday and take them back home.
We don't pay for light. We don't pay for water. Our salaries are good compared to what is paid at civil place.
If someone with school certificate joins the army, by the time he is five years in service, his salary has doubled that of a graduate. why do you think Nigeria is doing that for us?
Nigeria is doing that for us because we have vowed to defend the country if need be with our blood.
So for a soldier to come up and say am not we'll equipped and yet you have a riffle, what do you want? You want APC? You want tanks? The basic weapon of an infantry man is riffle so why should there be mutiny? " - Alex Badeh (21-01-2015)

Given Alex Badeh's recent comments, I propose that he be put on trial for cowardice.

Lies everywhere. What of the ones bought from Russia recently.

But truth be told, If that is true, then I am very very disappointed with GEJ, whom I have always considered as an architect in Leadership. But I will patiently wait for the story to be certified untrue.
