The President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba, monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital said the congress is planning to embark on a one day protest against the high level of corruption that had been going on in the country.

Wabba, who spoke at the opening of the 2015 NLC Rain School in the state which had as its theme “The Labour Movement and the Politics of Change in Nigeria,” said the protest will be an expression of anger and total condemnation of corruption in the Nigeria.

According to him, the Congress National Executive Council will hold in a few days’ time in Abuja where the congress leadership would ask National Executive Council of the union to declare a National Protest Action on corruption.

“The Congress National Executive Council will hold in a few days’ time in Abuja; the congress leadership will ask NEC to declare a day of National Protest Action to highlight our anger at the massive corruption and bad governance of the recent past.

“And make our case that all stolen wealth must be recovered, and those involved, face appropriate punishment for their crime,” Wabba said.

He called on President Muhammadu Buhari, to release all the names of corrupt public officers that looted the national treasury.

The NLC president pointed out that the congress was waiting for Buhari to unfolds his programmes in restructuring the Nigerian economy acknowledging the position of the president to throw open the identities of public officers who participated in the massive looting of over $150 billion in the last decade alone.

“We await the arrest and prosecution of the former minster who was recently alleged to have stolen $6 billion from our commonwealth,” he said

The 2015 general election in which the All Progressives Congress (APC) defeated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the NLC President said, had shown that Nigeria has come of age democratically.

He lauded the education department of the union for its hard work in ensuring that the 2015 rain school was held successfully.
The state Chairman of NLC, Etim Ukpong, had earlier said labour would continue to support government, adding that the welfare of workers must remain paramount in their agenda.

“Workers hereby express their encouragement to government as already demonstrated, hope to assist as we did to previous administration to succeed,” he said.
