With Post-Utme exercise across several tertiary institutions in the country, Many students are up and doing, to get the much coveted admission and start the next stage of their life. While some are already familiarizing with the environs of their preferred university/polytechnic, etc, others are still just working to make sure all things are equal.

What they fail to register, which happens late, is that there is a goal that each institution pursues for each newly admitted set of students. My scope is down to institutions still at infancy!

The aim to get recognition, through crook or through the rules is so sickening. While many put such info on their respective websites, few students actually bother less about how they wish to implement it.

In their greedy bid to get this 'national recognition' , students' welfare both in academics and other activities bear the grunt.

1) Lecturers acquired from already existing, mature university see this opportunity to prove who has it most: English dept mostly guilty of this; imagine 4lecturers teaching four year 2 classes and differ on one pattern of approach.

2) The Older the merrier: With our University system, opposite seems the case. You'l see baba 70 smiling and students are weeping over a test, exam. Some are better at saying stories of why students fail. They've easily forgotten that the dullest of a class of 205 may come years later, wealthier and come honor his school or open a library, etc. They fall mostly under the sadist group.

The emphasis on graduating with a first class has taken another turn in the last decade, not because of a good reason, other than the labour market, big companies require it. Thus after carefully looking at it, the students pay the price and leave double-faced like a Janus statue. Is this worth it at all?

The ratio of those that leave sad and those that leave with that 2.1 in terms of achievement in life is tilting more towards a negative side. Our System needs review: for existing Universities and new ones also. ASUU has failed to unite!!
