Nigeria police may demand for any document if you're stopped on the highway just to extort money from you. Nigerians, especially married couples that are embarking on inter-state traveling are strongly advised to have handy the the photocopy of their marriage certificate or a old and recent pictures of you and your wife, if you don't have marriage certificate, because Nigeria police may demanding for such document to confirm that the man or woman in your car is your wife or husband, not a kidnapped person. And if you're going with your child or children, please go along with the birth certificate and a recent picture of you and the child(ren) because Nigeria police may demand for it.

And if you're not married, it is either you get a "TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN" letter from your 'to-be' in-laws, signed off by a Divisional Police Officer, confirming that you're a known person, and the parent of your fiancé or fiancée have given you the permission to travel with their son or daughter. Or you line your pocket with sufficient Naira notes, because Nigeria police may ask you for the parent’s consent letter to travel with their son or daughter.
