There are basically two types of WordPress. The hosted WordPress () and the self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org).

For the sake of this tutorial, we will be discussing about the Self-hosted WordPress.

Security is Key
When your WordPress site is not well protected, it will be vulnerable to attacks from hackers. The hackers may prevent you from logging into your dashboard again.

Then the next thing you think of is formatting and reinstalling your site. That is not a good step.
Do not format you website
A few weeks ago, one of my clients site got hacked, and he couldn’t login again as he has been deleted.

I will explain to you a step by step guide on how you can get your site back without losing your posts and files.

To do this, you must have access to your Cpanel.
Login to your Cpanel
Go to the Database part
Then, go to your Phpmyadmin.

What we want to do is add an admin from the Phpmyadmin (MySQL)
When you get to the Phpmyadmin as shown in the image below, if you had installed multiple wordpress sites or any site, click on the Database of the one that you want to deal with.

Something like the below image will appear. Delete the row there as that is the login of the hacker

On the top left corner of the header, locate database, click on it
Once you have gotten in, we will making changes to two tables: wp_users and wp_usermeta.

Note that the wp_ is your table prefix. if you had changed it, you will be looking for the prefixname_users and prefixname_usermeta.
Let’s move to the wp_users table first.
Click on the wp_users table

We have to create a new admin user for our site.
So, Click on the insert tab, then insert the following

ID: Choose any number. In the example, we chose 12

user_login: input the username you want to use on your login page

user_pass: this will be your password to the login page, corresponding to the above username. Make sure to put the functions tab as MD5

user_nicename: Put any name that suits you there

user_email: put the email that you want to be attached with the username

user_url: this will be your site url

user_registered: put the date and time of registration here

user_status: just set this as 0

display_name: this is the name that will appear in the website

Then, click on the go button

Now, we move to the wp_usermeta table to add the values

Click on the wp_usermeta table
Then, click insert just as we did previously
Now add the following information

unmeta_id: this will be generated automatically. Leave it blank

meta_id: Remember the ID we chose in our wp_users?. Put it here i.e 12. There must be no difference

meta_key: set this as wp_capabilities

meta_value: put this there, a:1:{s:13:”administrator”;s:1:”1″;}

Go.

Then, insert another row in the table with the following information

unmeta_id: this will be generated automatically. Leave it blank

meta_id: put that same it here. i.e 12

meta_key: set this as wp_user_level

meta_value: set this as 10

Then click the Go button.

Congratulations. You have successfully restored yourself as an admin to your WordPress site.
Make sure you have deleted the hacker.
After doing this, if your website shows anything like “you have been hacked”.
Do not be afraid.
Go to your Cpanel, then, your installation directory. Probably the public_html. Delete the index.php. then, download the latest wordpress, extract it, and upload the index.php.

Your site should be back up.
Any problems?. Feel free to use the comment box in the link
