You're aware that at the tail end of the GEJ's administration, the price of oil crashed dramatically due to the excess shale oil pumped into the global market by the United States of America, which in turn led to the devaluation of the Naira, right? So if you're trying to lay the blame on GEJ, I suggest you go do a bit more reading.

If what u said is true, should you blame buhari too? I didn't blame anyone, rather show who did his best.

Pls don't insult me, I didn't insult u.

Do you believe all what the currency trader said? He is a speculator and you don't expect him to like the govt's policy that has meant bad business for them.

What maters to manufacturers is for dollar to naira rate to remain low and they are able to get dollars from the banks when they need it.

Of what use is it to manufacturers if the dollar to naira rate remains low, yet they can't fund their dom accounts to make transactions abroad? Mind you that some of them import part of their raw materials. By the way, how many manufacturing industries do we even have, compared to the volume of our imports?
Nigeria operates an import driven economy, and when our importers can't easily fund their accounts to make transactions, smuggling across the borders will be encouraged.

Why can't the manufacturers or anyone doing legitimate business/transaction have access to dollars? Why can't they fund their dom accounts if they follow the official and legal ways of doing it. The Governor of CBN clearly assured all genuine businesses the will have access to dollars and I am not aware they cannot receive dollars into their account from their business partners.

Re: Naira Rallies Against The Dollar by 989900: 3:36pm On Aug 22, 2015
We do not have a multi trillion dollar export economy like China.

Hell, we don't even have stable power supply, access to loans, infrastructure, anything resembling an enabling environment -- we can't even refine our own fuel -- we spend trillions of Naira importing refined products and you think devaluing like China will work for Nigeria?

Excuse me... GEJ needs to blame for the current devaluation of naira. Meanwhile what happened to our siphoned foreign reserve. Agreed shale oil forced crude oil price to crash. The clueless one know the consequence of shale oil in market but why can't he close the leak holes in the economy by resurrecting other sectors such as Agric and co to cover up the mess.

"Resurrect other sectors"?! Good Lawd.....you think that's done overnight?! Even at that:

1) Who is responsible for the AGRICULTURAL REVOLUTION that saw the increase in production output at record high, a FIRST IN NIGERIA'S HISTORY, leading to our more assured food security and a slash of our import bill from over N3 TRILLION to less than N600 billion? GEJ!

2) Who is responsible for the resuscitation of the manufacturing sector, the automobile sector INCLUSIVE via the AUTOMOBILE POLICY that has seen Nigeria MANUFACTURE and EXPORT vehicles (Innoson, Proforce, Nissian, and soon Ford, just to name a few? GEJ

3) Who was responsible for the establishment of more SME's via soft loans from programmes like YouWin and Co? Again GEJ!

4) Even at the crash of oil prices, who imposed a series of austerity measures to ensure that Nigerians did not feel the effects of the price crash?! Oh yes, GEJ!!

So what's this chap you're yapping about?

Oh btw, yes our FX coffers was lower than before, BUT have you factored in that:
* Fighting a raging insurgency requires cold hard funds, NOT air?
* That same FX is required to shore up the Naira to prevent further loss in its value?
* Capital projects implemented from power to water resource project, rail to aviation, road networks to health care services, etc?

When I pay online with my naira MasterCard, why am I billed at 225 to the dollar?
simseg01:
The Naira, on Friday, regained its strength and appreciated to N208 to the Dollar in the parallel market, compared with the N212 it traded for on Thursday.
The British Pound Sterling and the Euro also traded at N330 and N230, respectively, at the parallel market on Friday.
The official interbank exchange rate, however, remained at N197 to the Dollar.
Olufukeje Adegbeye, a currency trader, attributed the fluctuation of the Naira to the global devaluation of the dollar and recent monetary policies of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN); adding that the intervention of the CBN had stifled the forces of demand and supply in the nation’s currency market.
“The businessman on the street should be taken into consideration,” he said. “Some of our manufacturers still depend on the importation of raw materials for their operations. The policy
on foreign exchange restriction has made life extremely difficult for manufacturers.”
He also said that the CBN, through its policies, has created avenues for the cross border smuggling of foreign currencies, especially the dollar.

I will assume you have a MAJOR ISSUE with your eye sight else you would've known that I had already answered your question in post. I strongly suggest you check those eyes out and READ MY POST AGAIN.

And what "money looting ministers" are you referring to here? They may not be angels but they're FAR AHEAD of the clowns in the present Dana administration.

Do you want to compare Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, a sound product of IVY LEAGUE UNIVERSITIES, an erudite academician, and a TOP MGT product of the World Bank to Oshiomole, that Edo Orangutan suffering from oral diarrhoea and poor mental health no thanks to the negative effects of viagra on his brain?

You want to compare Dr. Adesina, a product of the UN mastermind behind the TOTAL OVERHAUL of the agricultural sector, the AGRICULTURAL REVOLUTION that saw the end of the fertiliser mafia and the LARGEST CROP PRODUCTION OUTPUT in our nation's history, to who? That fat bellied loud mouth airbag (all talk No action) Rochas Okorocha who couldn't sleep because Obama shook his hand, thus embarrassing his state and the nation?

Is it Olusegun Aganga, a sound product of University of Oxford (one of the BEST UNIVERSITIES IN THE WORLD) and GOLDMAN SACHS, compared to who? That he goat Aregberascal who ruined his state financially and can't pay workers?!

Or maybe it's Deziani Alison-Madueke, top technocrat head hunted from SHELL and brains behind the GAS REVOLUTION that saw the construct ion of the gas delivery system to power stations and industries, and the LOCAL CONTENT POLICY that has seen the MASSIVE PARTICIPATION of Nigerian companies in the lucrative upstream sector of the oil and gas industry, the 70%+ workforce rule enforcement on IOCs and other MNCs?

Oh, maybe it's Dr. Bath Nnaji, topmost scientist and innovator from Massachusettes Institute of Technology (MIT - Best engineering university in the WORLD), and Prof. Chinedu Nebo, FIRST CLASS PRODUCT and a SEASONED ACADEMICIAN, both men being minds behind the success in the power sector.

Okay....maybe it's Lt. General Ihejirika, War College ace student (2nd highest award; I should know cos I attended the graduation) and the brains behind the Army's Counter Insurgency Programme. Or is it Admiral Ola Ibrahim, the mastermind solely responsible for the MASSIVE rearming/reequipping the NIGERIAN NAVY, revitalization of the Navy's Special Forces programme. You want to compare these men with who? Dambazau? That fool known for his tribalism?

Hey, maybe it's Gen. Gazau, then Minister of Defence and Nigeria's SPYMASTER/ESPIONAGE LEGEND along the likes of Diette-Spiffe. Compared to who? The new DG-DSS Daura who was LAST in his class and a terrible service record?

Please tell me, which minister?

NO KILLING THE BEETLE! TRUST THE NAIJAMAN....FOR EVERY GOVT POLICY, HE IS CREATING SOME AVENUE TO MAKE SOME DOW! EASY WAY TO SELF EMPLOYMENT TRADING THE NAIRA even across borders? ALUTA CONTINUA! The Banks and the Govt are equally guilty for how can a recipient be compelled to receive Naira (at a much lower rate) when he is sent Dollars and when he needs to pay for foreign goods and services, the same bank and Govt ON THE SAME DATE AND TIME, sells the same dollars to him at a ridiculous rate. God save Nigeria.
