On current form I prefer vector as number one. In jaywons new jam back to sender vector was like: " Jaywon(J1)Na the boss(bus),J5". His lyrics on King Kong and several others are just a breath of fresh air. Most overrated rapper in the history of hip hop in Nigeria has to be ice prince though
Iceprince is good!!!he has just gone commercial

you did a nice analysis of each of these mentioned artist.
but it seems you don't have respect for some far better rappers.
I decided to go out of my way to listen to songs done by most of these rappers you mentioned.
I did this due to your post.

Besides vector and Jesse jags, I can tell you that Erigga&yungsix are far better lyricist than every other rapper u mentioned here.
I don't blame u 4 underrating these two dudes.
Erigga speaks too much pigin and yung6 is too young to be appreciated.
but look pass the pigin of erigga and young-age of yung6, They both hv far doper lyrics than every1 on these list besides vector&Jesse.

I'm not a commercially rap inclined. iv been into rakim, big daddy kane, NWA, wu tang, & KOOL MOE DEE, CHUB ROCK from 80's and 90's.

I was a strong Mc REN fan from NWA for several years.

so don't think I'm commercialised.

I had album plates of EFIL4AGGIN(NIGGAZ4LIFE) and Straight outta compton from NWA.

This was wen other dudes were doing MC HAMMER and LL COOL J.

Telling u d above, so some kids on this forum wdnt think I'm commercial.

THE correction I want to make to you all, is that NOT BECOS A RAPPER BECOMES POPULAR, U WD REFER TO HIM AS BECOMING COMMERCIAL.

A rapper becomes commercial when he has to depend on his beats, videos and choruses to impress his audience, rather than his LYRICS,RYHMES&DELIVERY.

B.I.G became very popular and even made songs the world could dance to, but he never was referred to as a COMMERCIAL RAP ARTIST.

He still still appears in the list of anybody's "Top 3 Best Lyricist of all times".

The above should apply to M.I.
Yes, he became popular. but you can't take his lyrical-prowess away from him.
his first 2 albums can't be matched by vector or Jesse jags for next 5years.
I beg you in the name of God, no see that Short black boy finish.

if vector likes, let him freestyle for straight 5years, his contents can never be as dope as that of M.I.

All these chyn/Mojeed, Ghost, Falz you listed here, WD be doing Hooks For M.I on a good day or Overdose(OD) and Terry D rapman.

Nice input you have here however i'll have to pass on yung6ix and erigga or even MI.Dont get it twisted i like yung6ix And erigga to the def,i have over 27 erigga songs on my phone and yung6ix' over 10 here and there singles plus his 6ix oClock album or my device too,i love them like that, plus am from warri too so its only right that i support their music as my own. However i cant place them on my top five LYRICIST,maybe top 10 But not five.

Yung6ix is more of a wordplay and punchline guy,to him rap is all about that but he forgets the real essence of the art. There are more to rap than just smart wordplays. His basically a good rapper not a lyricist.

Erigga is better than 6ix but still lack some certain intelligence to be rated above the five i mentioned. He lets "streetness" get in the way of his lyricism too many atimes, same reason i rate BIG above pac anyday, anytime.Erigga would probably be number 6 on my list tho.

MI has lost his juice mehn, his tired, lets face it.My list focuses on "right now" and MI cannot step to these catz right now mehn, boyz are men now and they aint smiling.

Thanks

OP. U are very much on point. Yung6ix really focuses more on wordplay&punchline rather than Lyrics.
BUT erigga has lyrics o. yes he may be very street like Tu-pac, but that's because of his delivery. The method of a rappers delivery at times gives a wrong judgement of the Rappers capability.

Take for instance, Eminem. he delivered with so much humour, but it took years before we could realise he had capability to deliver some deep lyrics. It took songs like Renegade & Sing for the moment,
be4 we realised he is up there with BIG&NAS Wen it comes to LYRICS.

DO u know that even in EMINEM's first album, THE SLIM SHADY LP, as comedic as it was, some songs had deep lyrics?

Go back to that album and listen to ROCK BOTTOM and BAD MEETS EVIL, you WD be convinced.

Believe me, I know lyrics wen I see it.
Im More inclined to BIGGY than 2pac just as you.

But ,How can you say ERIGGA lacks intelligence?
Telling stories with Rhymes and lyrics shows how intelligent a rapper is. That's what Made Nas the most intelligent rapper, even if he wasn't the best ever.
Trust me,no one has told stories better Dan erigga in the history of nigerian hip hop. Go and listen to his own WILD WILD WEST, or MR. WICKED MAN ft. Oritshe Femi.

ERIGGA has got it!
The boy is good.

As for M.I, you are right. he has slowed down. but I believe its deliberate. Judging him by his last album is at our own peril.

I agree with on most part of your write up,even the erigga part, yes he is one heck of a good story teller.

But the last paragragh about MI.If i dont judge him by his last work, what should i judge him by? His last two or last three albums?

o.p, u are very much on point. I can learn loads from you.

but please break down the following terminologies for me in ur own way

1. Word play.
2. punchline.
3. Lyrics.

I kind of think lyrics and punchline are intertwined.

Hello, longest time. Yeah boogey might just be Nigerian Dopest Rapper right now,but Ycee is more like a swag rapper, though i love is 'JAGABAN' track his more like a new guy in the game. You can also listen to jesse jagz - 'God on the Mic', Desire, The case Ft SDC, Burning bush, Bad girl ft wizkid( listen and tell me what you think).
But if you want quotable songs, listen to PAYBAC- Lonely &Depressed (he has so many project out there, but just listen to that one 1st). Also AQ- Freethinker(u should surely like this).

Lol, the moniker is from my pet name pronounced that way by my siblings when we we were kids and it stuck.

Well, I won't argue if you call it "favourite" I just find that the peeps on there are a bit more mature, we discuss real life issues one can relate to on there and we are kinda familiar with ourselves so I feel more "at home there" grin
