Ford, Lincoln And Mercury hardly visit a/c technician, particularly the evaporator which is hidden behind the dashboard. It was made of good aluminum material. Most times technician falls into problems by cannibalizing the electrical/electronic/immobilizer of vehicles while dismounting the dashboard.

Pato405, you are partially correct. If the cool diminishes per period interval, it's refrigerant leakage from the following :compressor, condenser, dehydrator, expansion-valve, evaporator and connecting lines . But if the cool stopped automatically, it's electrical/electronic management of the a/c.
