Governance according to one dictionary is the act of managing a country and its people. It involves a deliberate formulation of policies and plan of action for execution for development and well being of the people. It also involve the process of managing resources within a country to cater for the needs of the people.
Since the coming of this govt on may 29th, the administration has been battling to solve the numerous challenges facing the country. The drop in international oil price causing sharp drops in Nigeria's revenue is per harps one of the biggest challenges facing this country. A challenge that calls for new measures and policy formulation to extricate Nigeria out of the woods of financial shortages.
But if expectations is anything to go by, one can say this administration has still not woken up from its post electoral victory slumber. Not only is this administration on auto pilot, governance has been transformed into another new concept; Body Language.
What is body language? One dictionary defines body language as the movement or the positions of a person's body that show other people what you are thinking or feeling. Another dictionary also put it this way; Deliberate, usually culturally inflemced, nonverbal communication using the body through facial expressions, gestures, dance, mime etc. Considering the new vibe in Nigeria's governance, it means that the administration of Buhari is governinig Nigeria through facial expressions and non verbal antics to solve the numerous challenges facing the country. Can this be an effective mode of governance? How can facial expressions increase Nigeria's revenue or provide more schools for our teeming youths? How can mere nonverbal communication put a stop to crime or end terrorism in the north east?
If body expressions could end Nigeria's problems, Obasanjo would have transformed Nigeria into Dubai. If body language were that effective, Hosni Mubarak, Mamurh Gadahfi, Nelson Mandela, Margret Thatcher and a host of others would have transformed their countries into perfect Utobias envisaged by Karl Max. But that is not the case. Challenge upon challenges in areas of economy, healthcare, unemployment, food shortages, decay infrastructure are still prevalent in all countries on earth. New and better policies have to be formulated to address these challenges.

During the American elections in 2008, Obama outlined new plans and programs to address the problems in the economy and healthcare sectors when elected into office. After elections he formulated Obamacare for the less privilege and Bailout packages to manufacturing sectors to address unemployment as a result of closure of manufacturing plants. Though America is yet to come out of the woods, it is worthy of note that some progress are being made. Healthcare is now affordable to the not so rich folks. Manufacturing plants have open for business as shown by the number of jobs created and the fall in unemployment statistics. America is still faced with challenges but the resulting effect of Obamacare and Bailout to manufacturing plants shows that a deliberate policy is being put in place to improve the well being of Americans.

Sadly that is not the case in Nigeria. Governance has since been taking back to the old days.
It is worthy of note that during the Egyptian civilization, the body language of a king or queen can either save life or terminate life. Accounts of ruler ship through body language are well documented in history books. We have seen it displayed by Michael Jackson's music video; Do you Remember. A sign of boredom by the king will send executioners to terminate the lives of jesters and performance for not doing their job well; Not making the king happy. All through the stone age and the middle ages, body langauge was an integral part of governance. A happy king will send the signal that all is well but a sad king or an angry one means somebody is about to die. These and many more are features of the middle ages. Governance was by mere verbal communication and body language.

Having seen these features, one will be surprised at the way and manner APC is taking Nigeria into. Are we in the old days or in modernity? How can Nigerians be talking about body language in the 21 century? Are we actually progressing or retrogressing? These are questions we must ask ourselves. How can we attribute recent increase power supply to body language? Isn't that a mark of gross mediocrity to attribute better services to mere body language? For proponents of body language, are they aware that governance is by enacting and drawing up policies for care full execution? How many megawatts of power has the present government added to the national grid since assumption office? None. With no minister of power, it amounts to share sycophancy to attribute any kind of improvement to body language.

APC must have it at the back of their minds that governance is by policy formulation and execution, not Body Language.

drss opinion.
