Football to launch green cards... and it's not an April Fool!

A new initiative will this weekend be launched to promote fair play in Italy's Serie B league.

There'll be a yellow card, a red card and now a green card, specifically designed to reward good behaviour. What next, a sticker for kicking a ball?

And no, it's not April Fools' Day.

Italy's second tier want to hand out green cards for "conspicuous acts of sportsmanship" and other "acts of virtue".

The green cards will be handed out AFTER the games, according to Italian newspaper La Stampa, as refs seek to reward the good boys.

CARDS ARE OUT: We don't reckon Vinnie would get many greens...

So there'll be a league table for points and a league table for positive behavior drawn up over the course of the season.

Any incentive for the most green-carded player is yet to be revealed.

The scheme is being trialled after a directive from UEFA to promote fair play in football. It has already been used in Italian youth leagues.

Now, if only Vinnie Jones was still playing...
