NL is filled with teenagers and young uns. Most wouldn't understand the significance but would just see it as one funny cartoon.

Yup. Cartoon it is, until you've taken up responsibilities and begun to settle major bills besides house rent, feeding and cab fare for everyone in the house.

A man came the other day to raise drafts to settle school fees for three children of his. Two are in pry sch. Each cost N501,000. The other, is in sec sch. Sch fees per term: N541,000. I never knew Enugu had such schools. So he spends approx the cost of a Naija used 2006 Pathfinder. Per term! (Pardon the comparison but that's what it is). Why won't the guy in the cartoon wanna faint?

But all the same it boils down to planning.

Saving for the child's education right from birth (with significant amounts O. Not N5k that you'll put in today and draw tomorrow).

Child spacing.

Living within our means. Not living in Surulere and sending your wards to school in Lekki. Trying to live like Mr Jones.

Nonetheless, you are still part of the reasons why 'we' faint, ( you cant escape this! Lol) because those schools you have supplied books to, would definitely bill parents heavily for every book purchase!

Most times, the bill for textbooks, takes about 50% of the total school bills. Really, I doff my hat in admiration for those schools that do not enforce parents to buy recommended textbooks from them. So good to know that not all schools are SO profit-motivated.

You're right, Some schools also collects in installments. And if you can't afford school fees, there are public schools that doesn't cost much.

That is why I am an advocate of at most 2 children.

One can adopt more if need be.

If parents learn to priotise schl fees I don't think it would be much of a burden. I have come to observe that some parents prefer to send their kids to private schools at their own expense. Surprisingly, most public second schools in Lagos are much better than some private schools. So nobi by force to send your kids to private school if paying their fees would make you want to rob a bank. So parents and guardians be wise.

With this school fees wahala, no be person go tell people say make dem born as dem go fit train.

I would like to know your kids school so I may refer people to you. ... This is first term oh, they need books, pay for accommodation for boarders, uniform etc. For other terms, you may pay later but for first term, you need to take care of these issues at least na.....
