It was further learnt that Wike did not return 15 UBEC HILUX vehicles he took for his campaign. A senior driver with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has cried out that River state Governor, Nyesom Wike, failed to return the 15 Toyota Hilux pick-ups he took from the agency for his governorship campaigns while serving as the Minister of state for Education.

The driver (name withheld), explained that Wike, the then minister of state, “borrowed” the vehicles promising to return them to the fleet after the presidential and the governorship campaigns.

The driver, however, feared that the 15 vehicles may never make it back to UBEC’s fleet.

He said he was particularly angry when he saw on television how Mr. Wike was sending armed state officials out to recover government vehicles from officials who served under his predecessor, whereas “he too failed to return our own vehicles in his possession.”

“If you ask the governor he will tell you that he still has the 15 Toyota Hilux vehicles which we were told he borrowed for his governorship campaign. I believe, it is wrong for a political office holder to abuse his office by taking advantage of the government resources in their possession, and using it for politics,” the driver stressed.

The driver further lamented that the 15 vehicles taken away from their fleet are affecting the operations of the UBEC because the pick-up trucks are what they use to go to remote rural villages to execute the agency various rural development programs.

He appealed to Mr. Wike to show leadership by example by returning the pick-up back to UBEC office.

Attempts by PowerSteering to get the reaction of the River state governor to the allegation proved abortive.

Investigations conducted earlier on the former Minister and now new governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike uncovers the following allegations:

i) Allegation of the contract for the building of Almajiri Schools and the supply of textbooks to the front of Chief Wike, which conflicts the interest of his position as Honourable Minister (State) Education. The textbooks were printed tax free in India, Pakistan and Malaysia;

ii) Coercing of Principals of Federal Government Colleges (Unity Schools) nationwide to be remitting 40°/o of their allocated funds to him. A demand he shore up from 15°/o previously given to him as kickback and apprehensive to blow the whistle for loss of their jobs. From the 2012 quarterly allocation to Federal Government Colleges amounting to N16. 06,314.00; Nyesom Wike received about N6,680,000,000.00 as returns effortlessly by virtue of the oversight function which falls within his purview to transfer, hire and fire devoid of pension or accumulated gratuities.

iii) He drinks a special and exclusive brand of Louis XIII which cost £5,000 approximately, N1.3million per bottle which makes his extravagant lifestyle to be irreconcilable as a public officer to maintain his obscure class and status symbol.

iv) Nyesom Wike is alleged to have mismanaged over N50 billion allocated for primary education from his assumption of office to 20th October 2014, when he officially resigned.

v) Similarly, another N 17 billion was alleged to have been shared between erstwhile Executive Secretary/CEO, UBEC, Dr. Ahmed Modibbo; former Minister of Education, Prof. Ruquayyatu Ahmed Rufai and Nyesom Wike with an understanding that the tenure of Dr. Modibbo will be renewed for another four years. Dr. Modibbo’s greatest undoing was his funding of defunct Congress of Progressive Change (CPC) coupled with his occasional financial largesse to General Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR (Rtd).
