Code Of Conduct Tribunal and Arrest Warrant

On 11 September 2015, the Deputy Director in the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), M.S.Hassan filed a 13-count charge against Saraki, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), alleging that Saraki made false declaration of his assets in 2003 and operating foreign bank accounts while being a governor.[20]

Then on Thursday, September 17, Justice Ahmed Mohammed of a Federal High Court in Abuja issued an injunction restraining the tribunal from proceeding with the trial, and also summoned the deputy director in the AGF office and the CCT. Justice Ahmed Mohammed had previously on May 21, 2015 stopped the Nigerian Police from further investigating Saraki on bank fraud regarding a loan of N11.97 billion Saraki took from the defunct InterContinental Bank of Nigeria.[21]

On Friday September 18 the Federal government’s counsel, M.S. Hassan, said that the injunction granted by a Federal High Court to stop the trial was null, as the court has no power over the Tribunal. Bukola Saraki refused to attend the trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, but was represented by his lawyer, Joseph Bodurin Daodu, who was also the former president of the Nigeria Bar Association.

Due to his no show, M.S. Hassan, the prosecuting counsel requested that Saraki be arrested and brought to court which was granted by the Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar. A bench arrest warrant was issued against Saraki.

On Monday 21 September 205, Saraki appealed to the Court of Appeal to obtain an injunction against the CCT, which was rejected by Justice Morrie Adumein.

A second arrest warrant was issued against Saraki by the CCT's Justice Danladi Umar on Monday afternoon, September 21, 2015. Later that Monday afternoon, Saraki agreed to attend the CCT on Tuesday 22 Sept 2015. There's 100% tendency that Bukola Saraki will be jailed after the trial[22]

Code Of Conduct Tribunal and Arrest Warrant

Following his emergence as the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, forces within Saraki's Party, the All Progressives Congress, opposed to his election as the Senate President, conspired and hanged an accusation of false declaration of assets on him. The Chairman of the tribunal charged with trying Saraki is known to have refused to appear before the Nigeria's anti-corruption body, the EFCC, to clear his name in numerous corruption and bribery cases. It is rumoured that Saraki's opponents which included the country's president, Muhammadu Buhari, had persuaded the tribunal chairman to find Saraki guilty at all cost as a condition for letting him off the hook of his own crime. As it were the trial wants to find Saraki guilty by all means. All lovers of democracy in Nigeria are watching this development in 3Ds as it represents assault on the legisture common with military dictators turned civlian presidents. As it were Saraki appeared in the tribunal on 22 September, 2015 and pleaded not guilty to all the charges prefered against him.
