Ekiti State Government has given owners of kiosks illegally erected at the Fayose market in Ado Ekiti a two-week ultimatumto remove them.The State Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Prince Taelolu Otitoju, who disclosed this also said owners of kiosks, stalls and counters across the state would soon be made to pay ground rent on their temporary or permanent structures.According to a statement made available on Tuesday by the Ministry of Information, Youth and Sport Development, Otitoju added that arrangements had been concluded to build four additional blocks of 40 lock-up shops at the Fayose market as part of efforts to boost economic activities in the state.Noting that the market was Governor Ayodele Fayose’s first project during his first term in office in 2003, while the road network in the market was fully rehabilitated with asphalt overlay immediately on assumption of office for his second term, he said government had decided to turn it to a model market.Otitoju reiterated the determination of the Fayose-led administration to improve the Internally Generated Revenue of the State,stressing that the focus was to boost government’s capability to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people.He appealed to all stakeholders to supportgovernment’s efforts at making life more meaningful for the people, stressing that itwas vital that traders and their patrons maintain public facilities at the markets.
