Varicose Veins
shocked shocked shocked

Causes:
A varicose condition of the veins results from sluggish circulation due to various factors such as constipation, dietetic errors, lack of exercise, and smoking. Standing for long periods and wearing tight clothing can also lead to sluggish circulation. Pregnancy may cause varicose veins due to increased pressure in the pelvis and abdomen, which slows down the flow of blood from the lower extremities to the heart. Women usually suffer from this condition in the early years of childbearing. Obesity can also cause varicose veins.

Home Remedy for Varicose Veins:

Varicose Veins treatment using Vegetable Juices
Raw vegetable juices, especially carrot juice in combination with spinach juice, have proved beneficial in the treatment of varicose veins. The formula proportions considered helpful in this combination are 300 ml of carrot juice and 200 ml of spinach juice.

Varicose Veins treatment using Marigold
The herb marigold is valuable in varicose veins. A compress of this herb should be applied externally. The flowers of this plant can also be applied externally over varicose ulcers with beneficial results, as they are an excellent remedy for inflamed or ulcerated conditions of the skin.

Varicose Veins treatment using Hot Epsom salts bath
A hot Epsom salts bath is also very valuable and should be taken twice a week.

Varicose Veins treatment using Mudpack
A mudpack may be applied at night and allowed to remain until morning.

Varicose Veins treatment using Sunbathing, Breathing exercises and Yoga postures
Sunbathing and deep breathing exercises are also helpful. Certain inverted yoga postures such as viparitakarani, sarvangasana, and shirshasana are beneficial in the treatment of varicose veins as they drain the blood from the legs and reduce pressure on the veins. They help to relax the muscles and allow the blood to flow freely in and out of the lower extremities. Padmasana, gomukhasana, vajrasana, and shalabhasana are also beneficial.

Uncontrollable Flatulence ( grin grin grin)

Causes:
- Major cause of flatulence is swallowed air. Some people swallow air as a matter of habit, this condition is referred to as Aerophagia. While the oxygen present in the air thus inhaled is absorbed by the body, the nitrogen is expelled in flatus as it is poorly absorbed by the mucous lining.
- Presence of excessive amounts of bacteria in the intestines
- Consumption of large amounts of fibrous foods
- Consumption of products that contain malt extracts
- Digestive disorders that affect the GI tract such as gastroenteritis.
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Irregular bowel movements or constipation.
- Food or water that may be prepared under unhygienic conditions.
- A high-fat diet generates a huge amount of carbon dioxide, some of which is released as flatulence or gas.
- Odorous flatulence is caused due to the metabolic breakdown of sulfur-containing proteins and amino acids in the intestines.
- Persistent bloating and flatulence that is present consistently over a period may be an indication of a serious medical condition such as colorectal cancer. This may need deeper investigation and treatment.
- Fat malabsorption could be another cause for flatulence. This problem produces loose and light-colored stools accompanied by gas.

Home Remedies for Treating Flatulence:
- Mix 1/2 tsp of dry ginger powder with a pinch of asafoetida and a pinch of rock salt in a cup of warm water. Drink this concoction to get relief from gas.
Ginger powder -

- Mix 2 tsp of brandy with a cup of warm water and drink this before going to bed. (2 teaspoons o! grin grin)

- Chew on some fresh ginger slices that are soaked in lime juice after meals.
- A drop of dill oil in a tsp of honey taken immediately after a meal should be of great help.
Dill Oil -

- Dry grind 1 tsp of pepper, 1 tsp of dry ginger and 1 tsp of green cardamom seeds. Add 1/2 tsp of this mixture to water and drink after 1 hour after meal.

- Chewing peppermint after a meal does a lot more than just freshening your breath. Peppermint contains menthol that soothes the digestive muscles. It helps in treating flatulence, bloating and abdominal pain that accompanies gas. Peppermint oil combined with caraway oil has been used since ages to treat abdominal discomfort caused by flatulence.

- Bleeding disorders, could be one of the reasons for inexplicable bruises.
- Bruises in elderly people may be due to thinning of the skin.

Buchu -
Comfrey tea -

- Apply ice pack to the bruise. This will reduce pain and inflammation. Please do not try this remedy on broken skin.

- A day after using ice packs, apply heating pads to the affected area, this will dilate blood vessels and improve circulation.

- Apply apple cider vinegar and cold water on the bruise.
- Apply Heinz vinegar to the bruise using a cotton ball. This will speed up the healing process.
- Steep mullein flowers into olive oil and apply it on the bruise.

Home Made Facial Masks

Dry Skin:
Mask 1:
Mix 2 tablespoons honey with 2 teaspoons milk. Smooth over face and throat. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

Mask 2:
You will need:
- Ripe avocado flesh -
- Orange juice -
- Pure honey -
- Chamomile essential oil -

Put all the ingredients in a blender, or mash by hand in a bowl. Add extra orange juice if the mixture is too thick. Use your fingers to spread the mask over your face and neck and leave it on for at least 30 minutes, preferably longer, before removing. Use a warm flannel to rinse off the mask - this will help gently exfoliate skin as well as clean your face. This mask will keep for a day or two in the fridge if you don't use it all.

Mask 3:
Mash apricots mix it with warm olive oil to form a paste. Apply it on your face and leave it for 10 minutes, then wash off.

Oily Skin:
Mask 1:
Grate an apple finely and then add about 4 tablespoons of honey. Mix it well apply it to your face wait 10 minutes and rinse. It works wonders!

Mask 2:
You will need:
- 1 egg white -
- 6 drops witch hazel -
- 6 drops lemon juice

Whisk the egg white until it's stiff, and then add the remaining ingredients. Gently apply the mixture to your face, avoiding your eyes. Leave to dry for 15 minutes or so. Rinse well with warm water.

Mask 3:
Tomato Mask: For oily skin, mash up a ripe tomato and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

Sensitive Skin:
Warm a small pot of honey in a double boiler, then test a small amount on your hand to make sure it's not too hot. When warm, apply the honey generously over your entire face. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm, then cool water.

Normal Skin:
Lettuce leaves are best home remedies for normal skin. Dip two large lettuce leaves in olive oil and sprinkle on them a few drops of lemon juice. Place them on both sides of your face, and then cover them with a paper towel dipped in mineral water. Wipe your face with a cotton ball soaked in warm milk, then rinse with boiled warm water.  (You might as well just cook your face  grin grin grin)

To loosen blackheads:
Combine equal parts baking soda and water in your hand and rub gently on your skin for 2 to 3 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

Firming Facial Masks:
- Whisk together 1 tablespoon honey, 1 egg white, 1 teaspoon glycerin and enough flour to form a paste. (Approximately ¼ cup). Smooth over face and throat. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.
- Banana Mash: Mash up a very ripe banana. Add just enough honey to make a soft pulp. Apply over face and hair. This is such a great firming mask that aging movie stars have been known to put it in the cups of their bras to make their breasts "perky."
- Marie Antoinette's homemade facial mask: This wife of King Louis XVI of France was a legendary beauty. Many believe that this mixture was the secret of her clear and glowing skin - so much so that it's still used as a popular facial treatment in France. This mask is suitable for all skin types, but the witch hazel and lemon can be harsh on dry skin. If you indulge, be sure to use your regular moisturiser afterwards.
You will need:
1 egg
Juice of one lemon
4 tbsp cup non-fat dry milk powder
1 tbsp witch hazel
Put all the ingredients in a blender or food processor and mix well. Alternatively, you can blend them together by using a fork or a wire whisk. Apply the mixture to your face, neck and chest and allow it to dry for around 15 minutes. Use the remaining cream as a cleanser to remove the mask. Then, rinse your face thoroughly with warm water and pat dry.

Honey Cleansing Scrub:
Mix 1 tablespoon honey with 2 tablespoons finely ground almonds and ½ teaspoon lemon juice. Rub gently onto face. Rinse off with warm water.

Homemade face mask for blemished skin:
Take a chopped tomato, 1 tbsp of instant oatmeal, 1 tbsp lemon juice. Blend all ingredients just until combined. Apply to skin, making sure the mixture is thick enough to stay on blemished areas. Add a bit more oatmeal to thicken the mask. Leave on 10 mins. Wash with warm water.

Dandruff

Causes:
The main causes of dandruff are impairment of general health, development of a toxic condition mainly due to taking of wrong foods, constipation, and a low vitality due to infectious diseases. Other factors contributing to this are emotional tension, harsh shampoos, exposure to cold, and general exhaustion.

Home Remedies for Dandruff:

Dandruff treatment using Fenugreek Seeds
The use of fenugreek seeds is one of the most important remedies in the treatment of dandruff. Two tablespoons of these seeds should be soaked overnight in water and ground into a fine paste in the morning. This paste should be applied all over the scalp and left for half an hour. The hair should then be washed thoroughly with soap-nut (ritha) solution or acacia concinna.

Dandruff treatment using Lime
The use of a teaspoon of fresh lime juice for the last rinse, while washing the hair, is another useful remedy. This not only leaves the hair glowing but also removes stickiness and prevents dandruff.

Dandruff treatment using Green Gram Powder
A valuable prescription for removal of dandruff is the use of green gram powder. The hair should be washed twice a week with two tablespoons of this powder mixed with half a cup of curd.

Dandruff treatment using Beet
Beets have been found useful in dandruff. Both tops and roots should be boiled in water and this water should be massaged into the scalp with the finger tips every night. White beet is better for this purpose.

Dandruff treatment using Snake Gourd
The juice of snake gourd has been found beneficial in the prevention and treatment of dandruff. The juice should be rubbed over the scalp for this purpose.

Dandruff treatment using Other Remedies
Dandruff can be removed by massaging the hair for half an hour with curd which has been kept in the open for three days, or with a few drops of lime juice mixed with indian gooseberry juice every night, before going to bed. Another measure which helps to counteract dandruff is to dilute cider vinegar with an equal quantity of water and dab this on to the hair with cotton wool inbetween shampooing. Cider vinegar added to the final rinsing water after shampooing also helps to disperse dandruff.

Home Remedies to Preserve Delicate Items

Preserve Leaves/Flowers:
Mix one part glycerin with two parts water and heat, but do not boil. Pour into a metal or glass container. Make a fresh angle-cut to the woody stems; you also can gently crush the stems just above the cuts with a hammer to expose more of the pulp. Place the stems into the cooled solution, covering them with a few inches of the liquid. Place in a cool, dry spot with good air circulation, but not in direct sunlight. Depending on the size and type of foliage, it may take several days or up to six weeks to complete the preserving process. A good way to test if they are ready is to let one stem air dry and compare it to the stems in the glycerin after a week.
The result. . . . the leaves will be soft and pliable, allowing you to enjoy your plants for much longer.

Ceramic Tip:
This homemade glue fixes glass porcelain and ceramics. You will need 4 ½ teaspoons gum arabic, ¼ cup water and 7 ½ teaspoons of natural glycerin. Dissolve gum arabic in water, add the glycerin and mix well. To use, apply to both surfaces with a toothpick or popsicle stick and hold together for five minutes. Allow to dry for 24 hours before washing or using.
Note: Do not save this glue, you’ll have to make a fresh batch each time.

Cleaning Products

All Purpose Cleaner:
You'll need a large spray bottle, a half cup of baking soda, and enough water to dissolve. To this, slowly add a cup of vinegar (it will fizz like mad for a bit), then top off with more water. Let this mixture sit overnight, and then flip end over end to mix. Be prepared for more fizzing. When fizzing ends, it's ready to use.

All Purpose Cleaner that Cuts Grease:
Use the same recipe as above, but add a teaspoon of dish detergent.

Window Cleaner:
Mix warm water, one cup of vinegar, and two capfuls of ammonia. Be careful and try not to inhale too much. This mixture should be kept away from children.

Toilet Cleaner:
Pour two cups of baking soda into toilet bowl, scrub the inside, and flush. Now, pour two cups of vinegar into the toilet bowl, swish around the inside, and flush. Do not do this if you have a clog, as you will quickly have a reenactment of all that is ungodly.
Regular application will keep your drains sparklingly clean.

Carpet Cleaner and Deodorizer:
Sprinkle baking soda over carpet and let it sit. You'll get better results if you let it sit for an extended period of time. It's okay to walk on it and grind it into the carpet. Then vacuum thoroughly.

Stainless Steel and Fixtures:
To clean, use vinegar and cheesecloth.

Tile Cleaner:
Mix equal parts baking soda and warm water, scrub into tiles, and then clean with all purpose solution.

Furniture Polish:
In a small bottle, preferably foaming variety, add two parts lemon juice to one part olive oil (plain). To scent your furniture, add some essential oils to this. Keep the remenant mixture in the refrigerator and discard in under a month as it doesn't last long.

Please something for Strethmarks? embarassed
Re: Popular Home Remedies by spikedcylinder: 4:58pm On Apr 21, 2009
Stretch marks are usually a toughie but try these:

* Make sure in your diet you are getting plenty of protein and foods rich in Vitamin C and Vitamin E, they promote good tissue growth.

* Massaging your body with olive oil or Vitamin E may help.

* Mix one ounce of carrier oil ( try avocado, sweet almond, jojoba, they are the best ) with seven drops of lavender and five drops of chamomile.

* Apply cocoa butter and/ or elastin cream throughout the body as directed on label. These are very good for stretch marks.

* Here is another good recipe:
1/2 cup virgin olive oil.
1/4 cup aloe vera gel.
liquid from 6 capsules of Vitamin E.
liquid from 4 capsules of Vitamin A.
Mix all the ingredients together in a blender. After that, pour the mixture into a jar and store it in the fridge. Apply the oil externally all over the places where the stretch marks commonly appear ( abdomen, hips, thighs and breasts ).

My home remedies for blackheads are,

• Make a paste of oatmeal or almond and apply it on the face. Mix either oatmeal or almond powder with rose water to make a soft paste that spreads easily on the skin. Rub it on skin with fingertips especially on the affected areas. Leave to dry for about 15 minutes and then wash off with cold water.

• Extract juice of one lemon and mix with equal quantity of rose water. Apply this mixture on the face and keep it for about half an hour. Wash the face with fresh water. About 15 days application helps cure acne, pimples and reduces blemishes and scars.
• Warm a little honey and apply on the blackhead areas. Wash off after 10-15 minutes.
