I understand your points and where you come from but I have been on Uber for some time and my advice is from this. In Lagos, 50K net income every week is tough UNLESS the car is brand new and you don't need repairs. I have drivers who have crossed N180K few times but the reality is, can they do N180K every week? NO. Can they do N150K every week? NO. Can they do N120K every week? Maybe but from experience, NO. N100K to N120K is the realistic gross income for a very hard working driver. Most drivers don't cross N80K per week. I know the partner and driver you are talking about and I can tell you it is possible once or twice but not consistently. Experienced partners who see those numbers will always laugh because they understand the system. If these N200, 000 numbers are possible weekly, then you won't see many partners offering their cars on Uber Finder. The reality is, those in the system know the business and what's possible. Thanks

Uber is changing life in Nigeria

Few things affect life in Lagos like traffic, but Ebi Atawodi, Uber's General Manager in Nigeria, thinks the app is making a difference.

We are currently building together a more robust plan based on our earlier conversations with partners and current market realities. The obvious truth is: Drivers want freedom (like we all do) and want to earn more now and in the future. We are building our drive-to-own model and will appreciate constructive criticisms and suggestions. Let us start from the model of car. Suppose you were a driver and have to pay over 2-3 years for any of these cars on Uber Lagos, which will be your most preferred option:

A: Volkswagen Polo 2016
B: Hyundai Ellantra 2015
C: Toyota Corolla 2013
D: Nissan Sentra 2015

Consider the following metrics: Second hand value, maintenance and repairs over the years, year of the car and brand new vs tokunbo, brand image, fuel efficiency, durability, etc
Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by mrsage(m): 10:31am On May 13, 2016
Option C. Toyota Corolla. Fuel efficient. Good for brand image. Good second hand value.

A Nigerian used 2013 model should be good to go. Cheaper to purchase so faster capital recovery.
A 2013 car should be in good shape unless the driver has evil spirit in him.

I'm already in the cab Business so I understand the dynamics.

And by the way what are the terms for drive to own? I'm interested.

Thanks. The current model is growing fast but the future is drive-to-own. I am putting a plan together and will make it public immediately we are ready.

@TokyoBulls Is Uber lagos insensitive to its partners? two weeks now fuel has hit 145 a liter and no express communication? what really is going on with uber?
Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by TokyoBulls(m): 8:13am On May 18, 2016
The biggest advantage Uber has over others is the fare. They're the most affordable. Lots of partners and drivers in different cities have complained but Uber almost always keep their fares low. I have written to them and am sure many partners have too but the fares are as low as ever despite the 67% fuel price hike. They need to adjust the fares by 15 to 20% otherwise our P&L will start crying.

What kind of car are you using? I might be willing to buy. You may also put it on hire purchase.

Hi,
I am a partner with Uber. I can say it is lucrative if:

You can drive it yourself!!!! thats the best option if you are not currently employed or..
You have an honest driver (they could easily go off line and use your car as cabu cabu or not buy the amount of fuel that would be needed per day), like am not trusting my driver right now..
You have a car that has good fuel efficiency like the toyota (but it is not limited to toyota, i use a ford escape)
You your driver would be hardworking because you work early morning and late to make money, during the day can be dry sometimes.
Your driver is willing to driver weekend at certain time like sunday, the rates are higher.

I dont think the car has to be black though..

Can I please have your email or number, I need some info because I want to invest in the uber business. Thanks

is it true that a brand new car can be completely wrecked in 6 - 12 months on the UBER platform on Lagos roads?

Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by TokyoBulls(m): 10:09am On May 31, 2016
Possible but the driver must be a special advanced version of a demon. I have some cars I bought brand new over a year ago on the platform and have never fixed anything on them aside from servicing at designated dealer workshops. The driver is the most important part of the business. Also, please check the numbers well before buying brand new cars specifically for Uber. Make sure the numbers check out.

Possible. How often were you checking the car? Who was responsible for maintenance? What kind of targets did you give the driver?

Uber partners what's the latest concerning pricing? Petrol price has increased. How about the fares?

Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by TokyoBulls(m): 10:26pm On May 31, 2016
I had a chat with them today on the fuel price hike and the need to increase fares and they confirmed they will not be reviewing their fares upward. They claim 'As much as we value our partners and their feedback, we want to confirm that we are confident about our fares and will not review them at this time because of this situation'. We are concerned but we move on and forward. We need to focus on increasing drivers' productivity or moving to fixed-income rental, whichever works better. I know some partners are already placing their cars and drivers on hold but I am not sure if that is the best decision at the moment. I am increasing the number of cars we have. I know the times are tough but I hope and pray and believe ith won't last. We now have 23 cars and will continue to seek opportunities to increase them

I see my cars when they are due for servicing. I personally monitor the servicing. I am responsible for the maintenance. I give target of 100k after uber. I pay 20% of earnings after uber too. By "wrecked", i mean the arms were all damaged. One noise came up from the arms after one is fixed. Changed shocks, bushing, even steering. Even after those, the drive was not smooth anymore. The car felt like old beetle when driving. I had to sell it off. It was practically working for 4days and spending 3 days with mechanic per week. I am talking of a 2013 model hyundai elantra that i bought brand new in 2013 and used it personally ( driven only occassionally cos i was not based in lagos) until i put on uber about 9months ago.
