The Bayelsa State Government has declared seven days of mourning in honour of the first civilian governor of the state, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha. Alamieyeseigha passed on last Saturday at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital. The government also directed that all flags in all public buildings and premises across the state be flown at half mast for the period, according to the Government House statement on Monday. The government said the mourning period and the flying of the flags at half mast took effect from Monday. It said condolence registers had been opened at the Government House, the state Secretariat Complex and Ijaw House, all in the state capital.
