A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress
(APC) and leader of a civil society group known
as Kogi Concerned Citizens (KCC), Chief Sumaila
Adamu Jadams has appealed to President
Muhammadu Buhari to recognize and list Kogi
State as the 11th Oil Producing State in Nigeria.
He said the move will douse the hostility
between the neighboring communities
bordering the oil well from Kogi and Anambra
states.
Recall that since the commissioning of the oil
exploration facilities belonging to Orient
Petroleum Resources (OPR) at Aguleri-Otu, in
Anambra East Local Government Area of
Anambra State by former president Goodluck
Jonathan where he declared Anambra as the
10th oil producing State, there have been
constant claims and repeated agitation from
the neighboring states of Kogi and Enugu that
the oil deposits being explored by the company
were domiciled in their territories, and not in
Anambra state.
Chief Jadams urged the President to use his
capacity to do justice to the interminable
wrangling which has become an albatross to
social and economic development of the
communities involved. He stressed that there
is no gainsaying the fact that the said oil well is
originally domiciled in Ibaji, Kogi State. He
implored the President to put an end to the
quandary by pronouncing Kogi as an oil
producing state to douse the tensions.
“It is an indisputable fact that the oil well is in
Ibaji. Former President Jonathan’s
pronouncement of Anambra as an oil producing
State over an oil well located within boundaries
of Kogi State is an error. The oil belongs to Kogi
State. I beseech President Buhari to use his
capacity as President to interpose and pull the
plug of hostilities and violence between the
contending communities,” he said.

I gathered that most of the oil wells are in Anambra except one or two wells, which Kogi state is claiming.

Relative peace has been there so far because the Nigerian governnent has not made the mistake of adding Aguleri territory to Kogi state, but if Buhari were to be foolish and hateful of Ndigbo enough to wickedly readjust the border there, the way his brothers did in the 70s to deny the Imo/Abia axis of huge oil revenues, it will lead to huge violent reaction against southern Igalaland, and will invariably be seen as an attempt by Mumu-hammadu to hurt Aguleri people because they are Igbos

Best thing to do is to delist Anambra from oil producing cos it has caused more problem listing them than not.

Even if it is a single oil well that is located within the borders of Kogi state, they deserve to be listed as an oil producing and should also get the %13 derivation from the revenues that comes from the oil well.

Aguleri people are not wimps, and have proven their mettle in the battlefield during the Aguleri-Umuleri crisis, which has been seen as the most violent communal clash in Nigeria, thoroughly dwarfing the Ife-Modakeke child's play.

Thank God the Anambra gas reserves, are not in that territory.

Anambra and Imo have the largest gas reserves of any state in Nigeria and in fact, Nigeria is more of a gas-laden nation than oil-laden nation.

Once gas infrastructure is developed, Anambra and Imo will invariably be the richest states in Nigeria

Sometime during the Obasunjo administration, I heard an Oil executive say that Anambra has one of the largest Gas reserves in Nigeria but I was sceptical about that at the time
