Awolowo was (37), Akintola (36), Ahmadu Bello (36), Effiong (36), Balewa (34) and Okotie-Eboh (27), Enahoro (27) led the struggle for independence after the death of Macaulay. Only Zik was 42 at the time. In 1966, the first coup was led by: Kaduna Nzeogwu (29) and countered by Murtala Mohammed (28), Theophilus Danjuma (28), Babangida (25), Nanven Garba (23), Sani Abacha (23), Shehu Musa Yaradua (23), and brought into power Gowon (32), Ojukwu (33), Obasanjo (29), Buhari (24). Most of the military administrators who governed the states under the successive military regimes, most of whom are governors now, were under 30 years. The brief democratic dispensation which interjected the military interregnums also saw the House of Representatives in particular populated by majority of members under 30 years as well as some senators.Under 30s were also not in short supply with appointments, we have examples of MT Mbu who became foreign affairs minister at 23 and Pat Utomi who became a presidential adviser at 27 and so on and so forth.

NOW: Why is it that this age bracket is today still sleeping in 3 seater chairs in their parents’ homes?
Why is it that this age bracket is today still collecting pocket money from their parents?
Why is it that this age bracket is today still writing JAMB?
Why is it that this age bracket is today still sagging their trousers?
Why is it that this age bracket is today still searching for jobs?
Why is it that this age bracket is today no longer qualified to even be leaders of youth wings of political parties?
Why is it that this age bracket is today so docile?
Why is it that this age bracket is today still incapable of feeding itself?
Why is it that this age bracket is today barred by law from even aspiring to certain political offices?

Why is it that this age bracket is today incapacitated, unwilling, unable and incapable of asking questions?
let us tell our self the bitter truth.

Bitter truth indeed... It is a situation that requires deep thinking. What is really happening to the nowadays youth...
Could it be that they were denied quality education by their fathers who were given the finest of it by the colonial masters?
Could it be a result of the religious and ethnic divides which our fathers supplanted in us which makes it difficult for youth to come together to pursue its common goal. If you think otherwise, nairaland is a perfect case study
Could it also be as a result of a dead economy which our fathers created making them thugs, miscreants, militants and boko harams?
It could also be that the nigerian youths are all talks and no action..
It could also be that the youths have not created a platform for their presence to felt politically. Am not talking social media and that joke of a youth party.

The youths are not ready for power.

Yes, I feel bad about this too but the two scenarios are completely different. The first, there was a fight to free Nigeria and the second, our fathers now are in power. The big question is, should we start fighting them like we are fighting for freedom.

OP

The truth is, the average Nigerian 23 year old knows more footballers in real madrid than senators, while that is not bad but his opinion, but we have been brainwahsed into putting our wants over our needs

we are not ready for leadership, some shout for youth leaders but that is where it ends, tell them to go and protest and they will crawl back to their shells

but lets not back down

OP, I like ur post an analysis but if you check wella, all dose old cargoes have REFUSED as in refused to let the youths get into power.

Lets watch who Buhari will make minister of youths and sports. It definitely will be an oldu papa. Or is any of Buhari's ministerial nominees under 40yrs of age?

In as much as the old Papas are not encouraging the youths, the Nigerian youths sef gon are not even ready for leadership. How many youths are ready to protest for non-inclusion into Buhari's cabinet? Then the few that are ready, how many of dem are willing to do that without first asking for money? 99% of protesters in naija are being sponsored to do so. So if u want the youths to protest dia non-inclusion in the government u go need to press dem like 2k or 5k before dem go show. Na the kind ppl way ready for leadership be dat?

I actually began to pity the Nigerian youths when I saw that some youths stopped the construction of a road in their very community becos the company refused to give dem "marching ground". Dat road is still bad till today. Some Nigerian youths are just too foolish sha.
