Latest survey rates Glo best network Glo Mobile has again been rated the best GSM operator in the country by a new audit of mobile telephone service providers in Nigeria.

A summary of Network Audit for Lagos State in June published in August-September 2006 edition of IT Edge, a leading IT/Telecom news magazine, showed that Glo Mobile emerged tops in the performance indices of the research carried out by IT Edge Intelligence Unit and Next Technology.

Glo Mobile which started operations two years after the other GSM operators placed first on the table with an overall score of 37 out of a maximum 45 points. Vmobile had 33 points, MTN 31 and M-tel 24 points. Glo Mobiles score is an improvement on the last survey in which it had 34 points, but still finished tops. A total of nine test categories were used in assessing the performance of all the GSM companies, with Glo Mobile emerging first in all. These include Signal Strength, Call Success Rate, Call Drop, Voice Quality to Downlink, Voice Quality to Uplink, Successful Recharge, Successful Enquiry, Value Added Services (VAS) and Call Centre Operations. The company came second in the ninth test category, Call Success Rate.

Segun Oruamen of IT Edge Intelligence Unit explained that the survey statistics were based on feedback from subscribers across the networks as well as call centre operators. Next Technology also has a team of engineers which monitors network signal strengths.

Globacom's overall success in service /delivery and product innovation stems from its deployment of the superior 2.5 technology. It is the only operator in Africa to launch its operations on the robust technology which enables the convergence of voice, data and multimedia technologies and ensures unparalleled voice clarity and low drop calls.

Glo Mobile recently announced its readiness to launch the latest telecommunication technology, the 3G network, following the successful test-run of the platform on the Glo network by Alcatel. The 3G network will revolutionize the way data is transferred and relayed digitally. It enables a much faster transmission of data, voice, broadband internet and multimedia services over a range of frequencies, and allows customers to do video call, video streaming and high-speed mobile internet access from their 3G mobile handset, amongst others.

Globacom has thus far maintained a clear edge in the industry, boasting a bouquet of unique lifestyle-changing products unavailable on other networks such as Blackberry. Glo Mobile's customer care service is generally acknowledged as on of the best in the country. The Customer Care Department compares with the best in the world. It is equipped with the latest technology and is manned by well trained and highly motivated staff.

Globacom has in its less than three years of operations garnered most of the awards in the industry, the latest of which was the Company of the Year award by Thisday and Global Excellence. It was awarded the Subscribers Friendly Operator award in its first year, by Nigerian Telecommunications Subscribers and adjudged the network with the Lowest Call Drop Rate by Nigeria Telecom News. Industry regulator, the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), last year declared it the network with the Better overall Quality of Service and Billing Accuracy. It has also been nominated as Africa's Most Preferred network by the West African Institute of Direct Marketing. The International Telephone Union (ITU), an agency of the United Nations in its report on African Telecommunication Indicators noted that the entry of Globacom into Nigeria's telecom industry had brought greater innovation, lower tariffs and better services. It noted that Globacom distinguished itself by introducing per second billing and data services and pushed the reduction of connection charges. The ITU also credited Globacom for enhancing the nation's tele-density, saying the network's introduction of per second billing and a new pre-paid tariff scheme reduced connection charges, allowing more Nigerians to go Mobile.
