Information has emerged that the Presidency, some powerful forces from the North -West and All Progressive Congress (APC) were behind the unexpected postponement of judgement in the appeal filed by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, seeking to stop his trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

THISDAY was informed by a source shortly after the indefinite adjournment that there was pressure to delay the judgement at the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division.

What became curious was that no reason was given for the delay in the case, which was said to be 'sine die' (indefinite), with findings revealing that high-wired politics and pressure were at play some hours to the judgement.

Speaking to some journalists, the source said; "A governor from the north-west, the Presidency and some APC chieftains all mounted pressure for the delay of the judgement.

"You can see that the courtroom is even under lock and key, which is not the usual practice when we are not sitting. I don't know why today should be an exception."

The court had fixed 2pm for the judgement but when the parties in the case including their lawyers and journalists got to the venue, they were surprised to see the court room doors under lock and key.

This is very partisan, cowardly ("source,"wink yellow journalism. The other plausible position - as exposed already in yesterday's online edition of SaharaReporters, is that Senator Saraki's backers had perfected plans to get the Court of Appeal to quash Saraki's trial at the CCT, in the CoA's judgement slated for today. So, could it be that the CoA suddenly developed cold feet on account of yesterday's expose by SR? - Duwdu

Sahara Reporters Exposé Forces Court Of Appeal To Adjourn Saraki’s Ruling Indefinitely

The Court of Appeal in Abuja did not sit today, as was expected, to deliver a ruling that would have freed Nigeria’s Senate President, Bukola Saraki, from the corruption charges he is facing before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

Last night, SaharaReporters exposed a deal which had been brokered by Alfa Belgore, a former judge of the Supreme Court, in which a three-member panel of the Court of Appeal would have thrown a spanner in the legal works by ruling that the Code of Conduct Tribunal lacks jurisdiction to try the Senate President.

However, at 2p.m. today, Nigerian time, the judges of the Court of Appeal failed to show up to give the ruling they had promised last Friday. The court registrar told lawyers and members of the press in court only that the case had been adjourned. No date was provided to the lawyers in court.

Mr. Saraki had hoped the Court of Appeal would today end his ordeal at the CCT today, where his trial resumes on Wednesday. It is not clear if the Court of Appeal judges have any surprises up their sleeves before that important date on the nation’s political and legal calendar.

SARAKI IN BIG SOUP. CALL IT DICTATORSHIP, CALL IT WITCH HUNTING, I CALL IT DEMOCRAZY.

SARAKI USED THE BACKDOOR TO ENTER THE THRONE AND HE TAGGED IT THE RULE OF LAW.

LOCKING THE COURT ROOM AND THROW THE KEY INSIDE SHALANGA IS ALSO RULE OF LAW.

SARAKI MUST GO. BY FIRE BY FORCE. WE VOTED FOR TOTAL CHANGE AND YOU ALONE CANNOT HOLD DOWN OUR CHANGE CRUSADE THE WAY JULIUS BERGER HOLD DOWN NIGERIA GOVERNMENT.

The "indefinite" part of the adjournement is the problem, Saraki can't avoid CCT & he can't proceed to the supreme court....

Some people's ambition will be the end of them.... Struggle with peace of mind & joy trumps wealth with stress, strife & angst anyday. smiley

Very funny understanding of how the legal system works!!!if the appeal court judgement is adjourned indefinitely,it only means the status quo remains indefinitely and Saraki will continue to function as SP.No matter what the CCT rules, the status quo will remain until both the appeal and supreme courts affirkms that decision.

Manipulating the courts for political fights is not anti-corruption.
When this shittt hit the roof, the 3 arms of government will be grounded.
The head of government will take all the heat.
We are watching.

Which arms are we discussing here Sir? The Judiciary, the Executive and a good number of reasonable Senators are leaving Mr. Saraki to sort out his issue with the CCT.

I see you more of a comedian than Saraki's advocate. My statement ends as "...leaving Mr. Saraki to sort out his issue with the CCT". Or have the whole senate decided to hold their sitting at the CCT premises again?

Lolz checkmate ko chocolate ni!! Saraki's senate other than having to screen Ministerial nominess will also have to confirm the ambassadorial nominees,Heads of the DSS,INEC,FIRS etc as well as approving the budget for ministries!!! The senate would make life very difficult for Buhari should he dare to harrass them.

Bros The case would continue to linger in court while Saraki would continue to function as SP!!! After this week's sitting, the case would be adjourned again to probably next year.
