In as much as what those guys did was outrightly wrong I believe a lot must have also gone wrong on the side of the corper guys. Come to think of it, were they the first set of corpers posted to that school? If not why were they the first to be attacked, were there no female corpers in the school? Why didn't they attack them. Corp members should learn to behave well in their respective places of primary assignment

Imagine a principal say he was in a meeting when corp members lives were in danger! It only happens in Nigeria. Govt will never scrap the programme despite the fact that it has outlived it's usefulness because people are making cool cash through that programme. I served in Ayetoro,Yewa North Local Govt Area of Ogun state some years back. NYSC was a programme I looked forward to but was later disappointed when I discovered there was nothing to write home about it. All these dramas we sometimes watch on Tv are just ways of promoting the usefulness of the programme. We all know it is a scam. Majority of the places of primary assignment don't even need corp members. That's why they don't give a care what happen to them. They neither provide accommodation, transportation or any other basic amenities to make a service year interesting. They tell u from the beginning so that u won't complain later on when u are giving nothing! NYSC is a waste.

I am sure the male corp members have started chasing their girls and that is the reason for the attack.

I served in Abia state (Asa Umunka inUgwunagbo LGA) and I must confess the students though fearless are very respectful. If you respect yourself, they will love you and vice versa. Even though their actions are not justified, I believe the Corps members could have overstepped their bounds.

I witnessed a fight between JSS 3 girls and SS1 boys and I was shocked to see the girls throwing desks and chairs at the boys. The school had to close down until the issue was resolved.

Never underrate these kids.

KOPAS ATTACKED BY STUDENTS

I am a kopa (corp member) serving in Umuahia North LGA of Abia state. My service year started on the 5th of May, 2015., so I'm a batch "A" kopa. I wasn't the only corp member at my PPA, we are more than 15 kopas.
Prior to starting work at my PPA, tales from the public had already informed us of how lawless the school was and is. But, all we wanted was for students to dress properly, this is because improper dressing is the order of the day at the school, late coming is normal to them, disobedience is a pride and group movement give them the boldness and confidence they needed for actions. Teachers overlook their actions and pretend not to see it, for reasons best known to them.
The question is, what is the school authority doing?
These students will do anything to thwart teachers' efforts in putting things right.
Students walk out when teachers are talking to them, they wear slippers to school, at 9:00am a good percentage of the students are still on their way to school, with their shirts flying behind them, they use only the first two or three buttons of their shirts.

What did we do wrong?
Just after the morning devotion, kopas mount the school gate and ensure that late comers are punished according to laid down rules, kopas ensure that each student is properly dressed during school hours, we cease items such as slippers, hand bands, necklaces and rings worn by students to school. We go to classes and do our jobs and even others as may be assigned to us by senior teachers. Little did we know that our actions are attracting student-enemies to us, the same students we teach.
Lately, we've observed some irregular activities among students, such as holding meetings in farms within the school compound. The last one that happened, kopas were forced to involve the school security, but during a tour round the school compound, the students escaped through their usual passages, after all they know the nooks and crannies of the school.
On the 22nd of October, 2015., at about 3:00pm, the normal school hours has gone, it was prep for the entire school. A kopa had the opportunity to advice one of the students whom he met on his way back from a prep class. He charged the student to turn from the kind of life he has chosen, owing to previous happenings, after all the end is always bad, the kopa told him. Later that day, at about 4:00pm just after prep period (2:00pm-4:00pm) the same student stopped the kopa and warned him (kopa) never to point at him while talking, since the kopa did that during their little conversation. The kopa managed to scold him twice for the insult before he could run away. At a distance he threatened of making sure that the kopa will regret flogging him. Minutes later, when most kopas has retired to the lodge; which is within the school compound, the particular student with other group of boys with machetes stormed the lodge, with an intention to cause any kopa on sight harm.
We were just sitting within the yard when we sighted the strange faces with machetes on the fence surrounding the lodge, with so much treats of making sure we pay for all we've been doing. so within the little space we were left with, we could reach out to cutlasses within the compound in defence of self. They left and came back within minutes with more boys. But our sense and manner of approach stopped them from climbing down into the yard. They could only throw objects from the fence were they stood and destroy structures within range.
It is saddening that teachers who were within the school compound could do nothing. The only woman who tried calling for help was hit down by the students.
Within this period we contacted security men within the area, who came to arrest some of the students.
Did we contact the school authority? Yes! Did they respond very well? No!
The principal when contacted immediately after the arrest claimed to be in a meeting and never called back. The school disciplinarian responded when we text her of what happened after much failed calls. But up till our return from the police station at about 7:05pm we didn't hear from any of them.
Efforts on reaching out to the Zonal inspector failed, but on our return from the police station, we were able to reach him and inform him of all that had happened.
Na wao!!! Na serve I come serve o.

You served in Abia State in whatever L.G, not Umuahia, not Ibeku High School on Ikot-Ekpene Road.
Anyone that knows Abia state well, knows that those students are very dangerous like vipers_ they don't need to be provoked to strike.

JAKAN NIGERIA KENAN.
BANZAYE WAWAYE.

this is why I retracted from serving in those place. Igbos are the most stupid, intolerable and useless people in the whole world.

in kano we have many places that that are dominated by Igbo's commercial activities but we left them for the national development.

iam telling u that if Nigeria is to be divided then those yeye igbos can't leave those places because that is what they are saying.

imaging after many years of unnecessarily Biafra but they can't understand what life is all about.
I pity them.

Abia again, hostile state,i passed out last week thursday from Abia, throughout my service year i didnt receive any favour from them and worse part of my story is that the state allowance that is meant for us from SEMB,was not also given to us,they do not value corpers,if and only if nysc could stop posting corpers to the state will a thing of joy to me.A dime didnt enter my account from the state, the state is filled with corrupted and pple without sympathy, very hostile set of pple whom doesnt like to see strangers, wicked, crooked, heartless pple.

imagine a state where the principal does not have a say in the presence of the students, the principal will always say do not beat,no punishment and lots more. The state is using corpers as teachers yet they dont pay them what they sweat and work hard for,no food in the state, foodstuffs are too expensive yet they will want to withheld what is meant for corpers.

Eeyah... It is sad to hear of such news from a wonderful serving town like Umuahia.... I was posted to Ubakala Community Grammar School, Ubakala Nsukwe, of Umuahia South Local Government , as a 2013/2014 Batch C Corp Member. Even though Umuahia South was where my PPA was, I spent most of my time in Umuahia North because of my CDS (Sports). We trained sometime at Ibeku High School or better still, Broadcasting Corporation of Abia which was stationed at the back of Ibeku..... Moreso, the State NYSC Secretariat stays at the back of Ibeku as well. I always relish the time I spent there, and I wish to be back in the Town very soon.... I was convinced beyond propaganda that Igbo people remains a tribe I will forever wish to associate with as a Yoruba man.... #Sammyramires was by God grace, a brand when I served there!!

I visit Lagos frequently too, but I would be 'funny' to argue about Okota Grammar School with someone permanently resident in/ or from Lagos.

You know pple that served there in 2005, a decade ago...that's what you're using to know what you're talking about in this 2015?
Trust me, Ibeku High School students are hardly normal, in the past 8yrs_ they even got worse... 'worseter' if there is a word like that.
