Applying online is a step. Unfortunately it is no guarantee that the supposed company's HR are going to get it, talkless of shortlisting. I stand to be corrected, yet in my experience, the issue of whether a company is recruiting or not has many intricacies. These could stem from the recruiting company itself. In a place like Nigeria, what is called a successful application is not online application, as a matter of fact, it is a mere formality. In developed countries with near absolute transparent recruitment practices, you can apply and say to a more or less extent, whether or not, you would get a call up. In Nigeria, you would do better, after applying online to go on say LinkedIn or facebook, (I'd say the former though) and find someone in the proposed coy's HR you have a mutual connection with. This is if you are one of the 89.9% percent of graduates with no Uncle, Member of Papa's club or Dad's church society President to hook you up. Truth be told, in Nigerian job market, the reality is to turn it upside down, inside out, wrong (sic) way for it to work.

OP! It is only companies that have career page on their website that you can apply directly. Else any other address is most likely for costumer care not the Human Resource. Come to think of it, most online advert sites will still re-direct you to the original company career page. Mind you those websites are the easiest way to get adverts information

I totally agree with you but they can be a source of information e.g when you see a vacancy ad from oando/unilever/ibm on a site like jobberman, it informs you that they are hiring and you will definitely get more info on the company website where you can apply directly.

Some of them post the advert 2 days after closing date.

only apply when the job sites give you the direct company's e-mail address. so apply to the email address.

To avoid getting scammed, apply directly via the company's website. Do not apply via a job board.
Using the company's website gives you more information about the company you are applying to.
Kindly post any other tips for avoiding job scams below.
Thanks
yes even when it is advertised by job advertising site just copy the company's email or detail and apply directly avoid applying through a third party who may sometimes not even send your CV .

Permit me to ask you a question.

Have you heard about big companies leveraging on Outsourcing?

Sometimes, job boards are contracted as a result of complex business processes of these big companies and their inability to carry out recruitments that guarantee the right job fit and within the right time frame. A whole lot of them exist. ICS limited, Jobberman, NG Careers, My Job Mag etc.

Most big companies would allow these specialists do their recruitment work for them, while enabling them focus more on their core business processes while ensuring an increase in productivity. So, my brother, sometimes, you may not always see direct vacancies on their websites. Wake up! Wise up and embrace what works.
