The Cultural Attache of the United States Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Robert Kerr, on Tuesday said the highest number of geniuses in American schools have Nigerian ancestry.

Kerr made the remarks at a media roundtable on the various cultural and educational exchange programmes between Nigeria and the US, held at the American Corner of the Usman Danfodio University, City Campus Sokoto.

He disclosed that Nigerian schools seem to be doing very well while the students always excel in their studies in the US.

“Most of the Nigerian students find easy to embark on their field of study in the United States and they are performing very well but the only complaints we receive from them is on the issue of food,’’ he said.

Kerr said the US was fully committed to sponsoring more Nigerians for further studies, adding that they were in Sokoto to promote the various exchange programmes available.

According to him, the gesture was aimed at fostering more areas of cooperation between the two countries.

“This is also to facilitate Nigeria’s even socio-economic development, as the US is also fully committed to ensuring that Nigeria’s democracy thrives.

“So, we will continue to assist Nigeria in moulding its youths with a view to becoming reliable and dependable future leaders,’’ Kerr averred.

Kerr however, explained that the potential beneficiaries would be rigorously screened to ensure that only Nigerians of high moral and academic standings are selected.

He added that some of the programmes such as Mandela Fellowship, Fulbright programme, among others, are now open for prospective students, scholars and leaders to apply.
