A kidnap kingpin, Chijioke Ekezie, alias Chin Chung,, has been killed by the Abia State police command along with one of his gang members as they came to collect a N200,000 ransom along Aba Road, Umuahia on Saturday night.

Ching Chung and his mate whose identity was yet unknown were shot by the policemen who laid ambush for them as relations of the victim had dropped the sum at the agreed spot.

Briefing journalist on the incident, the Abia State Police Commissioner, Mr Edgar Nanakumo, said the two died at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia of bullet wounds they sustained from police in a bid to stop them from escaping.

The victim, Daily Sun gathered used an Okada to drive to the point where the money was placed and was escaping with it when they met their waterloo.
Narrating how they died, the commissioner disclosed “they also directed that the money be dropped at a place along Aba Road, Umuahia. The kidnappers riding on a motor bike had picked the money and made to escape towards Bende Road, Umuahia when anti kidnapping operatives, in order to prevent their escape shot at them.

Continuing, “he said they were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia where they gave up the ghost while receiving treatment”. Ching Chung was alleged to have killed the Bank Manager of UBA, Umuahia, Mr Udoka Ogbuagu the previous day as he tried to escape from kidnappers.
Presented as evidence was the GSM handset of the bank manager which was recovered from Ching Chung among other items including his own handset, a driving licence and the unregistered motor cycle which he used during the operation that led to his death.

Daily Sun gathered that when a pastor relation of the slain bank manager called the phone number, Ching Chung allegedly answered and he cursed him that if he was not killed within three days as he killed his brother, then he was not called by God to serve him.
Further corroborating the link between Chung and the death of the UBA Bank manager, the kidnap victim who was rescued by the police, said his captors had threatened to kill him the way they killed the bank manger if he did not act fast to convince his people to pay the ransome money quickly.
