The wife of the president, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, on Thursday declared that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari represents a government of unity, integrity, harmony, love and support.
Buhari who spoke at inauguration of her Health Screening Initiative programme for the South-east zone held at the Queens School, Enugu, noted that since Nigerians in their numbers gave her husband massive support which culminated in his victory at the March 28 presidential election, the president in turn had affirmed his commitment to ensuring unity and integrity in governance.
Mrs. Buhari said a total of 2000 women were expected to pass through the health screening programme in Enugu State, disclosing that already the project had been flagged off in the South-south and North-east zones. The women were screened of different ailments.
According to her, the pet project which took off shortly after the inauguration of her husband as the nation’s president on May 29 this year is intended to promote the health and wellbeing of women and children across the country with special emphasis on the women from the rural areas.
She said the project is a voluntary one with the sole intention of rendering selfless service to humanity, explaining that even the medical personnel working with her were equally rendering voluntary services.
She appealed to wives of the governors of all the 36 states to ensure that women from the rural areas took part in the screening exercise, noting that at the moment, the nation’s health care system was still improving and as such still required the contributions of all and sundry.
“In line with this vision, I have recently demonstrated a desire and commitment to support the ongoing effort of improving the health and wellbeing of women and children through this programme to be implemented in collaboration the wives of governors of 36 states of the country. This initiative is intended to reach women particularly those in hard-to-reach areas with basic medical interventions in all the zones,” she said.
Also speaking, the wife of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Dalapo said the health of every woman remained paramount to the present administration hence the initiative by the president’s wife.
‘Our prayer is that our health will at all times remain intact to the Glory of the Almighty God,”she said.
In her opening remark before conducting Mrs Buhari round the test rooms, the Wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi said the medical screening of 2000 women in a day had never been heard before and therefore deserved commendation.
While appreciating the wife of the president for responding to the cries and groaning of widows and less privileged through the health screening programme, Mrs. Ugwuanyi pledged her readiness to replicate the programme in all the 17 councils of the state.
The event attracted the presence of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Dogara, wives of governors of all the states of the south-east as well as Kebbi and Benue States among other notable personalities across the country.http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/buhari-s-government-is-for-unity-integrity-says-aisha/224819/
