This project would have been a relieve for people living in the lagos badagry axis.. but the problem with the project is that, since Julius berger was stripped of the road construction work and the whole project was given to CCECC, i noticed that the people in charge of the project (LASG and other finaciers) have been playing politics with this road. CCECC are known to be slow with thier projects because they allow politicians use them to steal money (same with MCC, Setraco etc) and this is one thing i know JB won't allow (same reason i felt they were stripped of the work) they would rather do the best to save thier image than compromise just to favour one politician or any body. My take is if the LASG really want that job completed in time, the road construction should be given back to JB and the rail should be continued by CCECC. This will force CCECC to be on thier toes just like what happened in the first faze of the work (from orile to mile 2) people around there know what i am talking about.

Thanks to the best Lagos state governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola(SAN). He gave life to the project.

This hero - worshipping of Fashola has to stop. How can you borrow commercial loans at exhorbitant rate to finance a major public project like this one? Nobody borrows at commercial bank rate to finance a large scale public project like this.

It's basically unheard of, except in Nigeria ofcourse. Right now, the Lagos State government have to contend with paying back hundreds of Billions of Naira in commercial loans alone, and there are still substantial international loans taken by Fashola. No wonder, Ambode does not know where to start.

Fashola rushed to initiate all these projects, none of which he would ever complete, just to 'make a name' for himself, and as expected you guys have fallen for it through unintelligent hero - worshipping.

Dig deep through Fashola's management of Lagos, and you will see a very average public manager.

Have you noticed how states with a new governor from the same party never mention corruption?
"Good job sir. Borrow more money that we will pay for- with interest. To hell with accountability- wailers can go jump in the lagoon."
Oh, but remember that in PDP-run states, the opposition APC are also wailing wailers.

And Buhari wants to fight corruption from Aso Rock.
Funny.

For instance, he said Lagos has a different soil texture from other regions, adding that the cost of constructing one kilometre of railway line in the state was $40m, and $20m in other places.

Why do these people always think Nigerians are the dumbest and most gullible people ever ? When he says regions, does he mean other states or other Countries ? Lagos is not the only coastal state in Nigeria, Africa or the world. I believe Rivers has one fraudulent light rail project on going too, is that what he means by other regions or is it the abuja project?

I don't believe this. Recently in the news, reports had it that construction firms sacked over 65,000 workers out of over 85,000 workers in their custody. Who then will complete the light rail project? The same firms are complaining of being owed debt, how does gov ambode hope to turn around the big tide. Anywayz no be today we don dey hear dates, the proposed
date was just to buy time to pacify our anger over his slow approach in lagos state

1. Taxes and World bank loans is constructing the Lagos Metro rail and the 10 lane Lagos Badagry expressway and not whatever rubbish you are talking about.

2. This is not only a metro rail project, this is a 27 mile ten lane (27 x 10 = 270 miles) freeway system with BRT access, rail system with rail cars, overhead bridges, rail stations, rail bridge over the Marina/Lagos Lagoon and power plants to power the whole system.

3. This is the largest public works project in Nigeria and in Africa and this is what sovereign countries embark on and not ordinary small state in Nigeria.

4. Lagos Badagry empress is our communal and economic outlet to the rest of West Africa, but the FG for many decades ignored the road and let it rot and decay with still effort to touch the road so Kudos to the Lagos state government for rescuing the road even with zero FG effort and support.

5. In many sane, rational, prudent and caring countries, their FG's supports such projects with funds and moral support, but not in Nigeria, you are on your own even thought the projects benefits every Nigerian in so many ways.

6. Whatever money was borrowed to finance the whole project, it's still chump change and easily paid back in full in no time.

7. With the metro rail moving as low as 200,000 people in 1 day x 20 days (We know the number is eventually going to be millions/day) @ N200 - N300 = almost N2 billion per month so every Kobo spent could be recouped in no time.

About Lagos state loans.

The world bank loans are 20 – 40 years tenor and average of 1.75 per cent per annum interest rate On the Debt Issuance Programme of N275 billion, in which N50 billion was paid last year, leaving a balance of N225 billion currently outstanding, he disclosed that government had over N100.73 billion as at March 2015 in its Sinking Fund reserve for repayment.

Meaning the state has a sinking fund they save money in to specifically repay their loans from and so far they have over N100 billion in that fund.

Lagos state's loans are sustainable and they have the best credit ratings in Nigeria so don't worry about Lagos state loans,

We can see on the ground all over Lagos what was done with borrowed money (N418.2 billion billion) and tax payers money, but small Delta state with less than 5 million people is saddled with N700 billion debt with zero to show for.

Are they building any metro rail in delta? What worthy or any serious project is going on in Delta state to justify N700 billion?

In Nigeria capital infrastructure projects cost ten times as much and take ten times to complete and last 1/10th of expected period.

Meanwhile our thieving government officials salaries and benefits is probably 10 times western counterparts that actually deliver.

Of course we know a lot of our government officials and politicians steal. Since their salary on paper cannot pay for the houses and bank accounts overseas.

And the Ethiopian light rail was completed for $500 million about half of what they claim they have spent yet no rail. The Ethiopian line also completed in just 3 years.

We have been hearing this BS since 1985. A very serious country whose only resource is tourism and a global airline has completed its own rail systen in less than three years. And Africa's largest economy which is laughing stock of the continent it leads, is spending five times that amount to refurbish dirty thirty year old scrap vehicles trains for the same purpose.

Ambode remember a politician by the name of Benjamin Disraeli once said, there are lies damned lies and statistics. You are only repeating what your predecessors have said.

The following pictures are a result of a serious government and commitment of a people to achieve single objective.

Nigerian Federal and State governments embark on economic development at press conferences seminars, forums like Nairaland, media and other frivolous means while others do theirs practically. Lies all over the place.

The light rail running through Lagos downtown is expected to relieve the heavy burden on the city's fragile road network,
with the help of a Chinese construction company.
