Tea Plantations, Mambilla, Taraba State, North Eastern Nigeria
A total of 1,200 hectares of farmland is currently being cultivated for tea production on the Mambilla Plateau of Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State. While 600 of those hectares are being cultivated by Mambilla Beverage Company, producers of Highland Tea, the local farmers empowered by the company also known as ‘out growers’ are cultivating the remaining 600 hectares and sell their harvest to the company.
About seven communities on the Mambilla have been identified as having great potentials in tea cultivation. Many places on the Mambilla Plateau are productive in tea farming.
Speaking on the cultivation of tea at the estate, the Senior Manager (Estate) of the Mambilla Beverages Company, Robert Bonchak, said the conditions that make tea thrive on the Mambilla include good altitude, soil type, good rainfall and other favourable climatic conditions

Doesn't look like a northeastern plantation, soil and topography to me. I was expecting to see deserts, flat land and stunted trees.

No proof that this is northeast.

Nice one aminho. Beautiful.

Rapid industrialization and micro-financing is what we need to implement because we have a large and growing number of peasant farmers.

With PMB'S focus on agriculture, solid minerals and Kachukwu recent announcement regarding oil in Lake Chad, this is a new beginning for the North. Let's hope Audu delivers.

This one terrorist Muslims are showing interests in Taraba, i hope that Tarabans will not allow them to occupy Taraba in future. It's clear why they sent Fulani herdsmen to massacre Taraba farmers. They want to plant tea.

Awesome stuff. The Mambilla area alone can feed the entire West Africa. But again, why aren't we tapping these proven opportunities that have more lasting importance and benefits than oil? Ill political will anyone?

Yesterday, my Ijo friend--he looked really pained-- told me there is a conspiracy by the northern people to conserve their environment and milk the Niger Delta as much as they could. It may sound like an over-the-top crackpot conspiracy theory, but I am starting to see glimmers of truth in that assertion.
