believe me men , there are LOTS of black people in Prague and LOADS of nigerians.
the first time you land there, go to a club called RADOST (if your girlfriend isnt insecure about going there) and you might find many of your brothas and sisters dancing their asses off!

Nigeria-born Asuquo says reactions to his campaign are positive.

Raymond Asuquo says he intends to provide greater representation for minorities in the Czech Republic if he wins a seat in the European Parliament (EP) this year.

The Nigeria-born candidate is one of only a handful of non-native Czechs to run in the EU parliamentary election June 5 and 6, and he says he hopes to encourage other minorities "to rise up and take their fate into their hands."

"I would like my candidacy to mean that the minorities in the Czech Republic [have] a lot to contribute to the development of the country where they live," Asuquo said. "If eventually I am elected into the European Parliament, I would like to fight for minority rights, equal chances and opportunities, and shared responsibilities."

Asuquo, who is running as a candidate of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) from his home in Břeclav, south Moravia, is among a tiny population of Nigerians here. The Czech Statistical Office records only around 380 Nigerians living throughout the country. Small as their numbers are, there are signs the Nigerian population is seeking greater visibility and a more active role within Czech society.

The Asuquo file

Name: Raymond Asuquo
Political party: Civic Democratic Party
Number of years in the Czech Republic: 19
Czech citizen since: 2002
Languages: English, Czech, German and Dutch
Besides Asuquo's campaign, the Nigerian community is now establishing a grass-roots organization called the Association of Nigerians in Czech, which aims to help integrate newcomers into the greater Czech society and to lobby for the return of a Nigerian Embassy.

The Czech Republic has not housed a Nigerian Embassy since its consul Michael Lekara Wayid was shot dead in February 2003. A local pensioner, Jiří Pasovský, was convicted for the murder, which was reportedly motivated by the loss of his life savings in a financial scam by a Nigerian group.

"One of the things we want to do is to brand Nigeria the way it truly is," said Prague resident Michael Olayemi Olawepo, who is running for presidency of the new association.

Olawepo, who came to the country as an information technology student eight years ago, said there is a wide spectrum of Nigerians living in the Czech Republic - those who study and work legally as well as illegal immigrants. All could benefit from supporting one another and having a collective voice, he said.

"Some [illegal immigrants] are actually graduates. They get here and they are not properly integrated," Olawepo said, noting that, contrary to the statistical office's data, the association anticipates a membership of more than 2,000 Nigerians in the Czech Republic. "If we have a community in which we can engage members irrespective of the category they come from, we will be able to help them, either through mentoring or through referring them to programs … through seminars and so on."

Asuquo's EP candidacy may be seen as an inspiration for Nigerians and other immigrants to become more involved in the country where they now live, Olawepo said, adding that it also indicates the Czech Republic is becoming more receptive to minorities.

"It means [the Czech Republic] has actually gone a long way. It says a lot, but we'd like to see more," he said. "We'd like to see minorities in the Czech police and the army, in the public services and so on."

According to Asuquo, native Czechs have reacted positively so far to his campaign, and are accepting of foreigners in general. "The fact that many immigrants including Nigerians and West Africans are coming to Czech Republic shows that the Czech Republic is receptive to foreigners," he said. "Any country aspiring to make money from tourism cannot afford not to be hospitable to foreigners, whether they are Africans or Asians."

Asuquo came to the Czech Republic in 1984 at the age of 27 on a scholarship for the Prague Institute of Chemical Technology. He became a Czech citizen in 2002, and is the CEO and director of business development for mineral supplier Zeopol Ltd.

Asuquo said engaging in politics is nothing new for him; he has been involved in the local politics of Břeclav ever since he joined the ODS in 2001 and ran, albeit unsuccessfully, for the EP in 2004.

In interviews with the Czech press, he has expressed that running for the EP is a way of repaying the country for the opportunities it has provided him. "With my knowledge, experiences and exposure, I want to contribute to the development of the Czech Republic within the European Union," he said.

Yes, he can

Within the Nigerian community, reaction to Asuquo's candidacy is mixed, and Asuquo himself acknowledges that some Nigerians and other Africans whom he has approached have received the news of his campaign with reserved neutrality.

Prague Internet café owner Daniel Bamidele Esan, 37, of Nigeria said he was unsure about the candidate because he did not know enough about him. "It might be good; it might be bad," he said. "I've never seen him before."

However, Maxim, 37, who declined to give his full name, said he was thrilled to hear a fellow Nigerian was running for such a high-profile position. "Wow, that would be good," he said. "I believe if we can have a Nigerian member of the European Parliament, it would be a privilege."

Olawepo said that, regardless of the outcome of Asuquo's campaign, the fact that he is running is a promising sign. According to the statistical office, other non-natives running for a Czech seat in the EP include two candidates from Slovakia, one from Italy and one from France.

"I think we're in the age that everyone feels that, at this moment, if you really try, then anything is possible," Olawepo said. "I'm not saying it's going to work or not, and I'm not saying that every minority who aspires for a position has something to offer. But why not try?"

newmusic:

so it is better to live in czech than norway?
Norway is so expensive and it will be difficult for someone that is not working there.
I think czech is by far better than norway for visiting, study and accommodation.
reply is appreaciated

i am sorry to break your heart but it will be difficult anywhere around the world for someone who hasnt got a JOB.
if you aint got a job, how are you intending of taking care of yourself? what are you aiming for?
wherever you choose to go, you will still have to learn a new language. accomodations in Oslo are pricier than in Prague but the salaries in Oslo are higher too.

the Norwegian economy is much stronger than the Czech one so if you are hoping to make money and come back home to 9ja to build a new house and buy yourself a Benz(like most hustlers dream of doing) then i suggest you look deeper into the matter or stop dreaming.

ask yourself this simple question: if the Czech Republic was so good in terms of work/living standards then why are all the czechs running to England to do ANY job?! same for polish, hungarians, slovaks or any east european citizen that just entered the EU.

a few yrs back, the Czech republic was the BIZNISS, but now that they entered the EU, the prices have risen sharply. so the balance between your salary and what you have to pay for rent/food/transport/clothing etc is not as huge as what you are left with in Norway. beware, i am talking about someone working in a LEGAL well to do profession (if you are looking for dish washing jobs then anywhere will be the same)

ps: just because some african dude is trying to get into parliament in CZ doesnt mean that YOUR time will be better there. the Czech Republic has NO black minister while Norway had a black minister in charge of family, children, integration and equality, Manuela Ramin Osmundsen, but she was sacked four months after being sworn in.

you are confused to say the least and you sound just like someone looking to find a place for a quick easy hustle!

ok i can now understand you better because from that thread and the other one, it was kinda confusing.

i have lived in both Norway and Prague and I can only give you MY view of what i will consider best, just take it as that.
while living in these countries i had the pleasure of discovering extensively Sweden, Denmark, Poland and Slovakia.

now that you have told us a little more about what you are going to do(which is study), i would say that in your line of work Prague would be best place to go to. the Czech Republic used to be the biggest place for big budget Hollywood movies shot in Europe, thanks to the Barrandov studios in Prague(europe biggest film studio). movies like Bleep, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, James bond´s CASINO ROYALE, BLADE2, LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMAN, KNIGHT TALE, BOURNE IDENTITY, CHRONICLES OF NARNIA etc were all shot in Prague.

also there are countless commercialS shot in prague, i have done two that were specifically for the US market (MASTERCARD and SONY). so you could also take contacts with some of the casting agents who will in return put you in contact with some of the many production company in the city.

up til 2004, Prague was the cheapest/best that Europe had to offer but now that they have joined the EU, big spending Hollywood filmmakers are attracted to places like Romania etc which has become the cheapest location to shoot in Europe.

you will still have a language barrier to conquer but within a few months, i think that you could manage it.

here is a list of the top film school in Prague, most do tutoring in english.

hey man , no problem!

you mentioned the price of the schools but i suggest you look around the world for similar schools/universities fee, you will be surprised how more expensive they are (especially in top cities like London, Paris, NY)
dont go for the dead cheap ones unless you have no other choices, this might make the difference in the future between getting jobs and getting MORE jobs.

if money is really an issue for you then what about doing film workshops instead?
its a great cheaper way to learn the ups and down of that industry and learn some skills through other avenues.

there are thousands of course/workshops all over europe, just google it!!!!

maybe you should also look into "(similar to the open university thingy). its a program available all over the world for students/people who might not have the time or funds to attend the top film school. so you go through the whole learning process online via webcam or online courses. you also can interact with the teachers and ask whatever worries you may have about a course. some institute will want you to come once every 3 months while others would have the whole course online. check it out as the distance learning prices are the cheapest out there for someonewho want to get into film making/editing etc!

I was wondering if there were any women willing to donate at my clinic. All expenses will be covered, and you would be doing a brilliant service. Please cntact me for more information, you need to be between 20 and 25 years old though. There is alot more I could say , but if you are interested please contact me
Re: Any Nigerian In Czech Republic? by pucca: 9:38am On Apr 03, 2010
I think some of you have lost the plot. To come to europe to work is not a dream, it is however hard work, but not impossible as we all well know. Where we go to make this living is relative, Czechs go to UK because some want to be free of restraints of life in Czech, and experience something different.I have noted that Czech people are very rigid in their outlook, and yes some open out to new things and people but many do not. It is a bit like the UK would have been in the 1960s when our parents would have come over to UK.

So I would not call it a pipe dream coming to czech.I have seen many Africians working in the bars and pubs in Prague, and commiunities throughout Czech, then there are some places where they think I fell out of the sky, and some how came out the wrong colour, but that is ignorance, and it is best ignored.

Wanting something different is not just a dream but can if you play your cards right be a reality, you must however be willing to work and put up with alot of crap and we are always the minority. So dream away and make it happen!

It is for IVF treatment in Czech republic. I need a black female who would share or donate her eggs to me so I could have a baby with my hubby. We do not ever have to meet, and compensation would be offered probably not by the clinic as it needs to be anonymous but definately by me. The female needs to be young so there is a chance of healthy eggs, once the process is completed, and the eggs fertilised and donated, then I would compensate.

It is an odd request I know, but I see black and mixed race people when I am there, but I do not know anyone, and I have no idea where I would advertise for such a thing. I am sure tha someone would assist me if we could only hook up.I know I can effectively buy this from Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria, but the travelling is a bit much, and I would keep on having to go back there, whereas this way my clinic would only be a 2 hour flight away.

If you have any ideas please e mail me
