MEND, Jonathan, Others To Attend Dickson’s Campaign Grand Finale by Nobody: 7:52pm On Nov 24, 2015
The Restoration Campaign Organization of Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has said the leadership and members of the Movement for Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), will on Saturday, November 28 attend the grand finale of Dickson’s political campaign ahead of the governorship election in the state.

Mr. Dickson is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the December 5 election.

A statement signed on Tuesday by the Restoration Campaign Organisation (RCO) said the leadership of MEND will attend the campaign’s grand finale to sensitise people on the need for a peaceful poll in the state.

The claim by the RCO that MEND will attend the PDP candidate’s campaign finale is contrary to a statement issued by the Niger Delta militant group’s spokesman, Jomo Gbomo on Tuesday, saying it never endorsed Dickson’s re-election bid and accused him of paying thugs to impersonate the group.

The RCO in the statement signed by its Director of Publicity, Mr. Jonathan Obuebite, also said former President Goodluck Jonathan would be present at the rally.

Others that will grace the grand finale are members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), all the party’s sitting and past governors, serving members of the National Assembly elected on the platform of PDP, ex-senators and Reps members, Bayelsa PDP leaders and members across the state.

In addition to the aforementioned, party stakeholders and supporters, at home and in the diaspora, the 500 non-governmental organizations routing for Dickson’s re-election and people from diverse and strategic institutions, will be on ground to rally support for the governor.

Obuebite boasted that the grand finale, which would also witness the presentation of PDP flag to Dickson and his running mate by the national leadership of the party, would shut down the state capital.

He said: “Bayelsa State is the Jerusalem of all Ijaws and the mother of all rallies will showcase the unity of purpose of the Ijaw people coming together as one and affirming the collective interest and aspirations of the Ijaw race.

“The leadership and members of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) would attend as a pressure group to mount campaign for a free and fair election at the December 5 governorship election.

“The mega rally is a culmination of Governor Seriake Dickson’s community-to-community tours, a grassroots campaign which had taken him to the nooks and crannies of the state in the last one month, spreading his message of restoration and consolidation of peace, security and development through his re-election”.
