The festering problems bedeviling the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano have assumed a new dimension by staunch supporters of former minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, planning to leave the party en mass.

Indications to that effect were noticed at the recently held 6oth birthday celebrations of the former minister where notable figures of his political foot soldiers were conspicuously absent.
The break-up of the Shekarau’s political base and the looming desertion of the rank and file of his supporters are attributable to the dwindling fortunes of the PDP that has continued to nose dive since its woeful failure to clinch any available contestable seat at the last general elections in the state.
There is verified information coming from former close political associates of the former minister confirming their exit from the party but waiting for other political arrangements to happen before their much awaited departure.
Malam Salihu Sagir Takai, the man who contested the governorship position under the PDP was said to have concluded all arrangements to leave the party and dump Shekarau so that he can regain his political relevance in the state that was eroded owing to his embedment with his political godfather, Shekarau.
Prominent among those that will defect to APC along with Salihu Takai included Abdullahi Sani Rogo, former special adviser on Political Matters to Shekarau, Alhaji Ali Datti Yako, commissioner Ministry for Local Governments, Alhaji Salisu Maje Gwangwazo, former chairman, Municipal Local Government and hosts of others.
There were reports that Salihu Takai and his political camp have held series of secret meeting with an elder statesman and member of the APC Boad of Trustees, Alhaji Bashir Othman Tofa, on their purported plans to leave PDP and make a comeback to the APC where they originally belong.
It was also reported that former governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has extended an olive branch to Malam Salihu Takai and his team where he promised them better deal at the APC when they eventually make-up their minds and make a comeback.
