Your point is one of the reasons why we have ecu problems and sensor problems in Nigeria. A very bad practice I must tell you. Now the big question is what takes back the current within the circuitin your car after you must have removed a battery terminal?

it flows through the circuit and back to the alternator, unfortunately the diodes can only handle a specific amount of current, the excess current overheats it and then it dies! major cause of alternator death is removing of battery terminals when engine is running
