The IBF has stripped Tyson Fury of his world heavyweight title because of his inability to defend the belt against the obligatory challenger, Vyacheslav Glazkov, rather picking a rematch with Wladimir Klitschko, whom the Briton beat on 28 November.

There was a condition in the agreement for the month ago’s battle in Dusseldorf that gave Klitschko the privilege to a rematch in the event that he was crushed and a week ago he affirmed he needed the chance to win the belts back.

Fury holds the WBA, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles, while the WBC belt is held by the American Deontay Wilder. No date or venue has been set for Fury’s defence against Klitschko yet the choice is prone to build the possibility of Anthony Joshua, who battles Dillian Whyte this Saturday, turning into a No1 contender one year from now.
