The ongoing $2.1billion Arms Procurement probe and its accompanying prosecutions have opened up the space for critical appraisal of our values, antecedents and pedigrees both as a nation and as individual citizens. During Wednesday interactive meeting and dinner held with members of the House of Representatives, the President was reported to have bemoaned and condemned Jonathan's adminstration for abuse of public trust in the purchase of military arms and equipment needed for the fight against insurgency. While blaming or criticising previous administration by a sitting govt is not new to our political landscape, questions must be asked on Buhari's moral justification in raising dust or querying Jonathan's shortcomings (if any) in his fight against Boko Haram. In all ramifications, Buhari has little or no grandstanding to accuse Jonathan or his officials for the prolonged insurgency war and the deaths recorded therefrom judging from his (Buhari's) support for the sect in the past.

1. At a time when Boko haram agitation was taking a volatile dimension, the president as a private citizen and prominent Northern leader roundly condemned Jonathan's govt for killing Boko haram members. He specifically said the fight against Boko haram was a fight against the north. It was such stance and arm twisting that forced Jonathan to sack Ihejirika, a onetime Army Chief who was seen as anti-north by Buhari and other northern elders. The question now arises, why is Buhari as a sitting president now turning around to premise lost of lives on arms procurement scandal and abuse of trust as against how he (Buhari) frustrated the fight in the past?

2. As a private citizen, why didn't he raise objection to the calls by prominent northern groups and individuals who openly asked Jonathan to remove soldiers from the north while Boko haram was still ravaging the region?

3. Why didn't Buhari criticize his party (the APC) when they opposed the proclamation of Bokoharam as a terrorist organisation?

4. Is Buhari now seeking an escape route for his inability to end Boko haram attack and rescue the Chibok girls as he promised?

We all support the fight against corruption in Nigeria but Buhari should stop using Jonathan's shortcomings as an excuse for the failure of his govt. The complicity of northern leaders (including the president) in the war against insurgency is the reason for inability of previous administration to end the carnage before the expiration of its tenure and not the escapist excuses been brandied by Buhari and his govt.

Bokoharam and fulani herdsmen are more daring in this administration than the previous one.

That's my greatest concern. Nigeria's main problem is not corruption but deception by political elites including those who parade themselves as men of integrity and the height our leaders can go just to hijack power.

And no single statement has been issued from the presidency condemning the menace up till today. Quite sad
