The Last Lizard; A short story

(inspired by a true life encounter, painstaking
observation and Eddie Iroh’s writings)

Three domestic agama lizards were wrangling
on a high fence.
It was a fight in the actual sense – They were
fighting over a piece of debris. The debris was
an hackneyed remnant of a discarded chocolate
bar meddled with sand and filth. The debris was
positioned in the gnashing jaws of the three
opponents, Each wanting the whole bounty or
perhaps a considerable chunk off the chocolate
litter.
In a split time, one of the three lizard
surrendered, jumped off the fence and hurdled
away into the bush. The battle was left to two
lizards. It was intense and survival-of-the-fittest
oriented. They raced to and from the fence
holes, jostling with claws and scales. It seems
the debris was worth all the stress.
And then, with no notice, there was a sudden
drop from the high fence, it was one of the
contesting lizards. The battle was over and the
winning lizard gnawed the debris deep into his
victorious jaws and crawled gently… out of sight.
Left alone on the crusty ground, the suddenly-
dropped lizard looked left and right, it gazed
around its premise most probably for an
encouraging, perhaps a motivating sight. He saw
none… none at all.
Then this lizard, the Last lizard did the
remarkable. It nodded its head upwards and
downwards and then moved on. It moved on;…

Moral of the story ;

“In life, we all have to be like
the Third lizard, the Last lizard: It looked left and
right, looked far and wide for support and solace
but saw none; yet still, motivated and braced up
himself despite the untimely and unwarranted
defeat. This being done, by nodding his head up
and down and then moving on for the better, for
the best”… Be self-motivating.
The nodding of a thing is usual for lizards as we
all know; however it was just used as an
illustration in bringing out a lesson to us all. We
must never be daunted by our defeats, we must
instead nod our heads in goodwill and move
forwards for the best.
