Please, I am not here to paint anyone bad. However, if Gen. Tukur Buratai was actively coordinating the war in NE, perhaps the Shiites massacre would not have occured. I remembered that on assumption of office, Buhari accused the erstwhile military command struture of abandoning their responsibilities in the war zone and sitting in Abuja. The president insisted that they should be in the war zone to defeat Boko Haram. That was the premise upon which the Military Command Centre was moved to Maiduguri and Gen "Push-Up" Buratai appointed.

My questions are:
What was the Chief of Army Staff looking for in Zaria at the time of Shiite procession while Boko Haram are killing senior officers in Maiduguri??
Could the attack have been a premeditated plan to unleash terror on the Shiites?
Could the COAS have taken another route to his destination rather than engage a group on religious activities??

I think that something is not right here. As Nigerians, let put aside political sentiments and parochial ethnic biases. A public inquiry should be instituted by Buhari to find out the remote and real cause of the face-off that led to the death of about 300 unarmed Nigerians. If this can happen to muslims of which Buhari and Buratai are "brothers/sister" in same religion, what makes you think that one day, when a COAS would be passing through Lagas Ibadan expressway, army will not kill worshippers because the road was "blocked".

By the way, it is totally appalling that we do not value human lives any more in Nigeria. Just last month, France lost about 129 people and the whole world almost froze, yet in Nigeria, Boko Haram, Fulani Herdsmen, Army and Police have wasted over 2000 lives since Buhari took over.
Neither the president nor NASS feels concerned. What is the essence of leadership if people's lives are not secured? Will you be leading the dead??

Fellow Nigerians, I feel compelled to call us out to collectively call this government to account. Today, it does not affect you so you may say, "How does it concern me!!" Be reminded of the words of Martin Niemöller (1892–1984), "First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

Too many brainless trolls on NL. So freaking boring this days!

So the COAS should be restricted to only Borno and not attend any other functions?

I am indeed sick. Sick because a General that is paid with my money (tax) to protect innocent lives decided to do the opposite and you applaud him.
Yes, I am sick because we have a nation that does no value the lives of her citizen, even in 2015 21st century). This is not 1976 dear, the rest of the world have moved on.
Yes, I am sick because you cannot see beyond your noses, just because you are either politically blinded or etnically bias.
Yes, I am sick of a system that does no value lives. A system that gives anyone in authority the right "impudence" to maim, kill and destroy.
I am sick ... of your type.

so because military command is in borno,a commander must b in borno all the time, shey

besides buruntashiburatai has been very active in the war zone, more active than any other COAS nigerian ever had during GEJ,he visits troops in different formations in the theatre frequently, even do push up with them, lol just to ginger them

truth b told, shiite incident was an avoidable one,but dnt blame buratai, cos he was outside the theatre, blame him cos it would ve been resolved diplomatically

u were almost gon make %50 sense, until u mentioned how many pple were killed under pmb,ur post is sentimental, oga op

it doesnt matter under whose govt nigerians are killed, what matter is that the world should sympathise wit us shekena.

Mak i go do small press up,gm

You start by writing that you are not here to paint anybody bad, and in the next breath, you call the COAS Gen "push up" Buratai. Paradox.
Back to your questions, the COAS was on his way to attend the graduation ceremony of some new young military officers, and pay homage to some Emir in the town.
You don't expect him to stay holed up in Maiduguri permanently because of Boko Haram without attending to his other duties. And for actually relocating to the cente of the insurgency in the North East, he is totally different from Jonathan's COAS who was whoring away and getting drunk everyday somewhere in town.
Lastly, I do not condone lawlessness or extrajudicial killing by law enforcement agencies but that Islamic Movement sect had become a law unto themselves. Ask any one living in Kaduna, Kano or Katsina, people are afraid of them. During this last procession of theirs they blocked one entire side of a federal road for four days, occupying different schools along the way without permission and generally being a nuisance to everyone.
Let them learn to respect other people's religion/rights whilst practicing theirs.

Naaah you did set out to paint the COAS bad...you just did not do it intelligently so you only ended up exposing your own bias.

The COAS was in Zaria for the passing out parade of Army recruits.

Besides, the fact that the command centre is in Maiduguri does not mean the man has to be located there all of the time.

it seems this OP is an educated ilitrate with a very low IQ. Just because you have a phone and hand to type then you write nonsense. the army chief was in Zaria for the passing out parade of new recruited Soldiers graduating from the Depot Nigerian Army school in Zaria. in the past lower ranked Generals are sent as review officers. but to boost their morale the chief himself came in person. imagine as a soldier the highest ranked Army officer in the land showing up at you passing out parade. please moderator delete this post
