HISTORY AND ACHIEVEMENTS;

His Eminence, Shaykh (Dr.) Muhammad Kamalud-deen Al-Adabiy, MFR, OFR, ORSA ( Egypt ). D.Litt. ( Univ. of Ilorin ), Fellow of Islamic Studies in Nigeria (FISN) was born in Ilorin at the turn of the twentieth century. His early education, under the tutelage of Mallams Ahmad Tijani and Salahudeen of Ile Babata in the Alore quarters of Ilorin, covered the recitation of the Holy Qur'an.

His genius emerged while still a pupil. He acquired mastery of the exegesis of the Arabic language as well as the verbal skills which are necessary for the propagation of Islam from the
teacher and mystic Muhammad Al-Jami Al-Labib of Masingba quarters, Ilorin - popularly known as Taj al-Adab (died 1923).

Shaykh Muhammad Kamalud-deen devoted his energy to the acquisition of expertise, deep knowledge of Arabic language and the Qur'anic/Islamic Sciences. In 1920, he commenced his life-long vocation of itinerant preaching and propagation of Islam throughout the length and breath of Kwara and South-Western States of Nigeria up to the boarders of neighbouring countries. From about the same time, following the death of Shaykh Taj al-Adab, he embarked on active promotion of formal (largely adult) Arabic and Islamic education with the establishment of Az-Zumratul Adabiyyah in Lagos in 1927 and its replica in Ilorin in 1930.

It is the multitude of his admirers and graduates of Az-Zumratul Al- Adabiyyah Schools (in Lagos and Ilorin) that later came together under the leadership of their teacher- Shaykh Muhammad Kamalud-deen to found the Ansarul-Islam Society of Nigeria on 28 th May, 1942. Under his watchful proprietary eyes, the society became a veritable organ of modernity and human resource development through active promotion of both Islamic/Arabic and secular (Western-type) education.

Although he did not himself receive formal education, Shaykh Kamalud-deen piloted the Ansarul-Islam Society of Nigeria and was at his death on 18 th December, 2005, General Manager of not less than two hundred (200) Primary and Twenty-one (21) Secondary Schools spread across Kwara, Kogi, Osun, Oyo, Edo and Ondo States of Nigeria, while vigorous efforts continue to be made to actualize the registration of the proposed Muhammad Kamalud-deen University under the proprietorship of the Society...
