Onofiok Luke was on Monday, December 21, elected as the speaker of the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly. Luke, a member representing Nsit Ubium state constituency of the state, was elected following the nullification of the election of the former speaker, Aniekan Uko (PDP- Ibesikpo/Asutan Constituency) by the Court of Appeal last week.
NAN reports that 24 members out of 26 were present during the session on Monday.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after their sitting, the new speaker promised to work for the unity and progress of the state, saying his election was the will of God.
