President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, yes­terday, expressed grief over the deaths and injuries recorded as a result of gas explosion at Nnewi, Anambra State on Christmas eve.

The Senate president has accordingly asked the Anam­bra State government, as well as the Nigerian Police to inves­tigate the remote causes of the deadly fire outbreak.

Saraki in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, in Abuja commiserated with the families that lost loved ones in the inferno and wished those that were hospitalized quick recovery.

Saraki said: “I am especially saddened that so many inno­cent Nigerians died and others were injured in circumstances beyond their control on a day they were putting finishing touches to preparations to cel­ebrate the Yuletide.

“It is most unacceptable that whole families and des­tines were wasted in this hor­rible manner due to avoidable circumstances. Clearly, this unfortunate incident could have been avoided if necessary preventive measures were put in place and safety rules appli­cable to such highly combus­tible operations were faithfully observed,” Saraki stated. He urged the relevant departments in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to strengthen their safety awareness campaign, monitoring exercise and en­forcement of regulations across the country to safeguard lives and property.

Meanwhile, Saraki has commiserated with the Lami­do of Adamawa, Barkindo Mustapha, over the death of his mother, Hajiya Adda Gombeji, at the age of 87. He also expressed sadness over the death of the mother of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. God­win Emefiele, Madam Alice Emefiele who was 94 years.

He specifically lauded the two late matriarchs for the ex­emplary life they led especially their contributions to the suc­cess of their children. While saying that both Lamido’s and Emefiele’s mothers passed on at a time their invaluable ad­vice were needed by their two illustrious children to advance their services to the country and to humanity, he urged the families of the deceased to take solace in the worthy lives lived by their late mothers.

Saraki, however, prayed God to grant the souls of the departed sweet repose, and the families, particularly the Lami­do and the Emefiele, the forti­tude to bear the painful loss.

Mr senate President, have u investigated the extra judicial killings. perpetrated by Nigerian soldiers, you turned your deaf ear to it when it happened, you want to investigate a man who lost his fortune, think of better things to do, in other to help this nation, .........attack my post if u are brainless

how many people really died in that incident?
