Physical signs of abuse and addiction:

· Periods of increased level of energy, inability to sleep, and restlessness
· Abnormally sluggish movements, confusion and disorientation, slow in speech or reaction time
· Abrupt weight loss or weight gain
· Periods of excessive sleep
· Sudden changes in clothing such as always wearing long sleeved shirts, to conceal scarring at injection sites
· Alleged drug paraphernalia
· Chronic troubles with sinusitis or nosebleeds for those who uses snorted drugs
· Persistent cough or bronchitis, leading to coughing up excessive mucus or blood for those who uses smoked drugs.

Mental and emotional signs of abuse and addiction

* Periods of being strangely talkative, “up” and cheerful, with seemingly unlimited energy.
* Increased bad temper, agitation and annoyance
* Strange calmness, unresponsiveness or looking “spaced out”
* Depression and apathy
* Delusions, paranoia
* Temporary hallucinations, psychosis
