I was shocked to hear from the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu that all the Pencils we have using in Nigeria for more than 55 years since independence are all imported.

This thread is to help us make a list of all the common essentials that we use in Nigeria that still depend heavily on importation. Apart from Luxury and Premium goods, am more interested in basic items.

You never can tell, someone may just take up one of these items and work towards manufacturing them locally. Help the goal of diversifying the economy - Post what you can remember.

The Government or Private company should establish a leather processing plant in Aba and in the North to help those producing leather wears to have access to heavy machines - this will help improve quality and durability of Made in Nigeria Leather products like shoes.
