A MAJOR WhatsApp outage has left users across the globe unable to send or receive text messages on New Years’ Eve. Online reports of the Facebook-owned app being DOWN have SURGED. Fans flocked to social media to complain about the WhatsApp outages across the globe No, it's not just you. WhatsApp really is down. The cross-platform messaging app is believed to have experienced a series of technical difficulties tonight – leaving well-wishers unable to send text messages in time for the New Year. The world’s most popular messaging app first began to experience problems at around 4:30PM UK time. Since then, reports of issues across the globe have surged as users flocked to social media to complain about the WhatsApp outages. WhatsApp was rated the worst app for protecting users’ data, earlier this year. Independent website DownDetector.uk, which tracks "when services go down or have outages", reported a spike in the number of people complaining about WhatsApp not working properly at around 6:00PM UK time.
