really I respect this course so much....

read stories of successful people in that field. n I believe strongly that to be successful depends on the amount of information you have, the dedications, hard work and focus to put into making the most of info u have. although some courses as more promising n several options for greater career but those courses also have large numbers of failures. just be exceptional . Google will do u a lot..

Psychology graduates are one of the most highly sought after, for example, in the UK. You can go into many areas of specialisation as already highlighted by other respondents. If you find yourself in the UK system, you need to do a BPS certified MSc which confers you with GBC. Then, you undertake one of the professional doctorates to fully qualify as Educational, Forensic or Clinical Psychologist, etc. The minimum salary is no less than £30,000. The job market for psychologists, currently, isn't bad in the UK.

Op,I'm a psychology graduate, UNILAG and career options is one of the first things we talked about. To your question, you can work anywhere as long as there are human beings there, your options are limitless depending on your interest. there human resources, counselling, recruiting firms, churches, hospitals, advertising, manage artistes, anywhere really. For me I just graduated with an interest in advertising/brand management and will be taking a course at O2 academy in a few weeks time. That already gives me an edge cos having taken a course like consumer psychology,I'm raring to go

This is what schooling in naija does to people...u don't even know where in the society u fit in....I personally will want Nigerians to stop sending their kids to schools(most schools of the world esp. Nigerian schools) which primarily have become prisons for the many cos they will think they are not useful until after graduation and after that, most of them whom have dreams of becoming one thing or the other, wud have lost such passion to the passage of time being brainwashed that first class result is the all in all....I think our society wud be better if we are all skilled and use our skills in development of our society...personally I'd rather send my children first to primary school (1-6) after which he/she wud skip d secondary school prison and go learn something professional (outside africa ofcos) till age 21...come back home with such skill and den tell me what he/she wants (school or practice)...any pick of such child z a good choice, at d end of graduation, there is no doubt that person wud be useful to the society!!! Our education system z a mess and we just need basic skills in our early childhood passion

Just struggle to become a lecturer undecided

...then teach students who will someday graduate to ask this same question
.

Sad......so sad. My big question is, why do we have to wander about looking for non- psychology jobs. We are as important as nurses, health workers etc.

I think its time for a school of psychology after graduation just like law school. Every psychology graduate must be mandated to apply and attend this school then get a license to work in any hospital . please, let me know your opinion . I really really love psychology and I want to be a part of something bigger in psychology. Let's come together and see what we can do to re-chart the course of psychology in Nigeria. My number is 07035572624

Like someone wrote, you can pursue an academic or a professional path. However, an academic path gives you the opportunity to become a lecturer or a consultant in whatever field of psychology you pursue. There are several fields which some have also listed - education, organizational, clinical, forensic, sport, etc.

As a professional, you can basically pursue a career in human resource management and related fields.
However, be ready to do a Masters because without it, you cannot specialize and ultimately be considered a specialist.

I had my first and second degree in Psychology with specialization in Social and Personality psychology. I have worked for years in a consulting firm that specialized in training and social developmental research. Research is something any Psychologist and social scientist should particularly be adept in. I have also been involved HRM especially in the area of job recruitment, selection and placement.

My career and involvement has cut across the private and public sector with focus on social development projects. As a result, I have had experience working as a consultant on several World Bank, ADB and other internationally-supported or funded projects in Nigeria.

Over the years, I have consulted and still consult for federal and state government ministries and agencies and for the World Bank. My expertise include social research, capacity building, and project management. Sectors involved include education, health aagriculture amongst others. I currently float a consulting firm of my own. For privacy reason, I cannot go into more detail than I have shared.

Did I know or plan for these when I was working towards admission into the university? No. I intended studying Economics but somehow ended up with Psychology.
However, once admitted into this course, I sought information on its prospect and got to embrace it eventually. The truth is you have a lot of options when you study this course depending on your dreams and also your exposure and contacts along the way. A lot of people are ignorant of its prospect (I was too before) but believe me, it has a lot.

Finally, should you wish to take this course, please take the research aspect very seriously as you should with any social science course.
hello sir... pls can I have a chat with you If you can please my mail is ezeanietoj@gmail.com or kindly drop me your email address

Dey say information is power. What u don't know u don't know. Psychology is a little bit different from every other conventional course. U are nt a psychologist until u av at least ur masters. If what u av is just a B.sc in psychology my dear u need to specialize, it's not enough. Psychology is too broad not to. U can't b a jack of all trade especially in this line of discipline. You can't call urself an expert or a psychologist with just your B. Sc you only have a degree in it.
Mind you, psychologist are one of the most intelligent individuals you ever meet. It takes alot to b admitted into psychology post graduate programs and eventually being accorded the privilege to be called a psychologist. So if you are a graduate of psychology, believe me you are studying one of the best course you can if only you can further which is of course very competitive expecially in area like clinicals. You will almost certainly not struggle for jobs their after. As a psychologist (m.sc, ph.d) you can work anywhere (armed forces, police, prison service, immigration, other paramilitaries, hospitals, in community health centers, as human resources personnel in an organization, as a forensic expert in the judiciary, as a sport psychologist, as a counsellor. U can even established your own consultation firm, public service etc. ) as long as people work there and exhibit a form of behavior there is a place for you.
