Enugu state is one of the 36 states of Nigeria. It is in the southeastern part of the country. Its capital city is Enugu. As its name implies, it is a state on top of hills.


There are 17 LGAs in the state. Namely; Aninri,Awgu,Enugu East,Enugu North,Enugu south, Ezeagu,Igbo Etiti,Igbo Eze North, Igbo Eze south, Isi Uzo,Nkanu East,Nkanu West,Nsukka,Oji River, UDI and Uzo Uwani.

This State was created on August 27th 1991.Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is the current governor of the state. It has an area of 7,161km2, population of above 3 million as of 2006 census.


It was in 1909 that Coal was found in Enugu. Which was like a hub for the country as of then.This state played a major role in the independence of Nigeria, thus; After the killing of the coal miners who were agitating for their welfare. It promted to the emergence of the Independence. I will go into detail next time.


Enugu people have so many wonderful cultures like new yam festival, masquerading on festival occasions to make it colourful, they are also known in their mastery of gong beating.(ogene) Thier is this blowing of an elephant horn in form of expression of joy and happiness, for instance, a woman delivers a new born baby and lots more. there are some part that if a married woman sleeps with another man outside her marriage, goes mad until she confesses and cleansing will be done on her. The northern part of the state has much honour and value for elders especially in their Atama or Onyeishi tittle. This is a title to the most elderly man in the village as a whole.

They are serious minded people who are mostly, professional, technicians,experts,business tycoons, agrarians. They are very good at rice production which is called Adada rice. Thy have big markets like Ogbete in Enugu,orie Oba in Nsukka area which some neibouring states from the middle belt like Benue,Kogi,Nasarrawa and Platue come to buy agricultural produce in cheap price .

It is not assumed you have attended secondary school if you did not attend, CIC Enugu,St Patrick College Enugu,Queens College Nsukka and St Theresa's college Nsukka.With other qualitative tertiary institutions like UNN, IMT,ESUT and lots more. There is also a wish for the creation of a new state known as ADADA for its people.

In fact, the awesome topography of the state is something wonderful. Their is UDI hill, Ugwuonye Ama, Nike lake and others.
