70-year-old Woman Bags First Class From Open University by Emisco3310(m): 6:35pm On Jan 16, 2016
FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo was, on
Saturday, awarded Masters Degree (MA) in
Christian Theology by the authorities of the
National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). He
graduated with 4.25 Cumulative Grade Points
Average (CGPA) at Abeokuta Study Centre of the
University.
A total number of 10,652 others students of the
university were also graduated on Saturday at its
5th Convocation ceremony held at its permanent
site, Abuja, where 15 students graduated with
First Class honours.
The convocation ceremony, which was full of
surprises, also witnessed the graduation of a 52-
year-old grandmother, Mrs Abdullahi Amina, who
came out with First Class degree from Islamic
Studies. She graduated from Gulak Study Centre
of the university, that is in the heart of Boko
Haram rampage.
This is even as President Muhammadu Buhari
said that there was no alternative to
diversification of the nation's economy in view of
the current dwindling oil revenue occasioned by
the fall in prices of crude oil in the international
market.
Buhari, who is the Visitor to the university,
pledged to look into the issues of non-
mobilisation of the graduates of NOUN for the
compulsory one year National Youth Service
Corps and rejection of NOUN Law graduates by
the Nigerian Law School.
Mr Udo Ukeme Effiong emerged the best
graduating student after scoring the highest
Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.71
from School of Science and Environmental
Management, while a 70-year-old Rear Admiral
Orishamolade Stephen Ola made First Class in
Mathematics.
Vice Chancellor of the uiversity, Professor
Vincent Ado-Tenebe, said the students had
fulfilled all conditions for award of various
certificates of the NOUN.
He noted that the former President Obasanjo
bagged MA in Christian Theology, having sat for
about 10 examinations.
Ado-Tenebe also disclosed that Obasanjo was
given admission to study MA and Ph.D in
Christian Theology, therefore, the former
president would now continue with his Ph.D
fully.
Two traditional rulers, Emir of Hadejia, Chairman
of Traditional Rulers, Jigawa State and
Chancellor of University of Uyo, and paramount
ruler of Agwu kingdom, Felix Okechukwu Asadu,
were among the students of NOUN that
graduated.

National Open University of Nigeria is one of the best Schools in Nigeria, the School is not for milk suckers but is meant for bone breakers. Some people abuses students of NOUN wrongly thinking they are of low standard, but that is far from the truth. The Professors, doctors and most other staffs of the institution are products of conventional schools, I believe all of them must have taught in conventional school before joining NOUN, meaning they cannot pass a student when he or she is not worth a pass coupled with the fact that they don't even know the students by face nor name. So if a student of NOUN bags a First Class honours, I believe he/she really worked for it as grades are not tampered in the institution, if a student is graded with an A, it means the Professor or Doctor is satisfied with the answers given by the student afterall he or she doesn't know any of the student. Please I want to use this medium to advice those still writing JAMB every year, please go and get a NOUN form and stop the wait, don't allow anybody downgrade NOUN and keep discouraging you, but make sure you are equal to the task before joining NOUN as you will be almost 100% independent learner, so you will read and read and read as the lectures are simplified and coded into a medium and you are expected to decode them.

God bless you
God bless NOUN,
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,

Udo Ukeme Effiong

It's God, He alone did it, I didn't do anything extraordinary, just the normal reading and a very little extra sacrifice.
Thanks, God bless you.
