The Federal Government on Monday painted graphic details of the monumental corruption that rocked country in the past, declaring that 55 privileged Nigerians stole N1.34 trillion from the treasury between 2006 and 2013.

The period in question covered the last three administrations of former President Olusegun Obsanjo, late Umar Musa Yar’adua and Goodluck Jonathan.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who made the disclosure at a briefing with the media House Bureau Chiefs in Abuja, said all the 55 are in court facing trial.
He appealed to the judiciary to help speed up the cases.

He said, “The situation is dire and the time to act is now. For example, between 2006 and 2013, just 55 people allegedly stole a total of N1.34 trillion in Nigeria. That’s more than a quarter of last year’s national budget!
Out of the stolen funds,
15 former governors allegedly stole N146.84 billion,
four former ministers allegedly stole N7billion,
12 former public servants, both at federal and state levels, allegedly stole over N14billion,
eight people in the Banking Industry allegedly stole N524billion
and 11 businessmen allegedly stole N653 billion.

“Now, what do these figures translate to in the actual sense? In other words, what is the cost of these stolen funds for Nigerians? Using World Bank Rates and Costs, one third of the stolen funds could have provided 635.18 kilometres of road, built 36 ultra modern hospitals, that is one ultra modern hospital per state, built 183 schools, educated 3,974 children from primary to tertiary level at 25.24 million per child and built 20,062 units of 2-bedroom houses.”

He also described reports that the current anti-corruption war was lopsided as erroneous and nauseating.
He added, “There is the erroneous impression out there that the war against corruption is a vendetta against the opposition, and that it is one-sided. This is not true and indeed very nauseating.

“This is the money that a few people, just 55 in number, allegedly stole within a period of just eight years. And instead of a national outrage, all we hear are these nonsensical statements that the government is fighting only the opposition, or that the government is engaging in vendetta.”

Who else has noticed that new figures/cases of 'looted' funds always come out every Monday? By Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon a follow up story will be released and often times than not, these stories will dominate the week's discussion.

Jeez!!! But I just hope this figure will not be denied later... Because alot of figures have been exaggerated and later denied since APC came into power.
Meanwhile, before Buhari moved in to Aso Rock, I could remember reading the entry was delayed due to a reported story that some spiritual cleansing men were working in Aso Rock.. Could that be true as well??

“Out of the stolen funds,

- 15 former governors stole 146.84 billion naira;
- four former ministers stole even billion naira;
- 12 former public servants, both at federal and state levels, stole over 14 billion naira;
- eight people in the banking industry stole 524 billion naira; while
- 11 businessmen stole 653 billion naira".

If Buhary's fight against corruption will get the full support of Nigerians, it must cut across all sector of the economy, from Federal to State Governors to our Legislators to Public and Private sectors.

We must pursue the looters and get our looted fund back irrespective of the party they belong, {No selective justice} and the government must as a matter of urgency introduce system that discourage corruption. (As exemplified in GEJ's introduction of TSA & BVN).

Looters are our common enemy and we must not shy away from calling for their heads to be chop.

Our reservation is against the selective cases of Gen. Buhary.

that is what you get when the ruling party pampers, and even facilitates corruption as compensation for its members..then the opposition party members become the devils

some people go just die on top matter wey no matter to them. What's my business with the right of one that plundered the public wealth. If media trial will make us ridicule the person and prevent him from such act in future by tarnishing his image when the court could not serve justice, so be it.
We all cry they leave the stage, yet some peeps that knows not what .5m looks like want me to die for them on top human right. I have once been to prison and I saw people awaiting trials for years, same with patients at our hospituary which is neither good for the living nor the dead.
God will kill the enemy of this nation with death never experienced in their households. From plane crash to earthquake to pestilence.

It's only in Nigeria where confirmed thieves are the ones chasing and chastising other thieves. Lai Mohammed should sincerely throw up his hands and tell us the trillions of naira equally stolen in Lagos, Rivers and Kano during the same period. Two thieves were condemned with Jesus, while one owned up to his misdeeds and received pardon, the other (representing APC today) was arrogantly mocking his co-accused. The rest of the story is now history.

Lamido Sanusi said 20 billion dollars of Nigeria money was missing. Ameachi said 50 billion dollars of Nigeria money has been missing. Those missing money must be recovered by APC administration because they believe that the money is missing. With this, everybody will like APC.
Nonsense! You now tell me that only 1.34 trillions are stolen by some 55 people since 2006.

We are getting fed up with Buhari, APC and Lai Mohammed's alarmist and propaganda-motivated reports.

We know all Nigerian politicians are corrupt. So please stop disturbing our senses of hearing with gratuitous banalities.

Go to court and do the needful.

We want to be hearing the number of jobs Buhari has created in over 8 months in the saddle.

We want to see the dollar exchange for N200 let alone N1.

We want to see power supply reach the level it attained immediately Jonathan left office.

We want provable performance. Enough of these distracting noise.

Yes Alhaji lai mohammed. That number includes almost if not all PDP ex and present government functionaries, sadly majority of them make up your present party train including two ex-governors 'pardoned' by your party and rewarded with a governorship ticket, while one promised to return his loot if reelected (sadly he died without fulfilling this), the other is busy causing mayhem in his place just to win an election. You see you can't talk about corruption in this country without visiting the past and if you visit the past then you will surely visit APC no matter how hard you try not to.

Propaganda as usual. wat ar d names of d kworopt pipul one tin about dis APC military govt is dat they ar good at is dishing out frivolous allegations n exagerated figures to score cheap political point. today they will say GEJ stole $2.1 billion for election campaign, tomorow GEJ embezzled $150 billion, next tomorow, GEJ looted N2 trillion. dis pipul no dey tire
look at sanuai for example, he accused GEJ of embezzling $50 billion nnpc funds, den brought d figure down to $49 billion, den went down again to $20 billion. not satisfied he brought d figure down to $12 billion, den went down to $10 billion. confused n unsatisfied, d a.bo.ki raised d figure up again to $20 billion. for goodness sake ar dis allegations not frivolous were is d evidence Has buari found d missing $50 billion APC buari military govt like to play politics with everytin in dis con3, hence it has becom a habit for dem to dish out ridiculous allegations for d sole purpose of settling political scores. now they ar coming up with 55 pipul stole N1.5 trillion. tomorow they will dish out anoda figure. confused govt.
if they have evidence of embezzlement against some pipul den they should be charged to court. enough of all dis media propaganda.
i hope d N2.8 billion buari stole in 1978 was included.
