The naira continued to maintain an average value of N306 to the dollar on Friday, few days after the apex bank retained its monetary policy ratio (MPR). The apex bank’s monetary policy committee retained its MPR at 11 per cent and the cash reserve ratio (CRR) at 20 per cent. The naira lost a point from the N305 to a dollar it had previously exchanged, a depreciation of 0.3 per cent. It, however, closed at N197 to the dollar at the official Central Bank rate. Traders at the market cited shortage of the greenback and anxiety over calls for the devaluation of the nation’s currency. They argued that the devaluation wind was still affecting sales at the market.

u are daft ...major dollar earner for nigeria is down by 80 percent and u expect naira to be same in value...if pdp goverment left a reserve like 64 billion dollar like obansanjo did we will not be in the mess ..we for manage till it get back to 70 dollar or diversify our economy...bush man all commodity dependant countries with poor forex reserve have devalue...ghana.southafrica..zambia..malaysia abi na buhari be there own president

Great point. I do believe we will see appreciation in Naira and possibly normalizing at 220 Naira in parallel market if the CBN official rate is adjusted to 210-215 Naira to Dollar to reflect prevailing economic challenges. If nothing is done, I'm afraid to say...the free fall will continue until it hits 500 Naira.
