Tagged one of the greatest and longest conflict in the world , the hostile conflict between Israel and Palestine is set to intensify after the French Foreign Minister, Laurent Fabius made it public last week that France will recognise Palestine if it's efforts towards a peace accord between Isreal and Palestine fails .

This was made known last week at the International Conference which aims to broker a peace deal for the duo. He went further to state that, the Socialist government of France is solidly behind the idea of a two state, which would be helped by their American, European and Arab trade partners . While it is still too early for the outright recognition of Palestine, "Peace" is the focus of the conference . While this conflict isn't new and the illegal Israeli settlement in Palestinian territory continues, Palestine is optimistic of seeing a two state solution with the help of the Security Council Resolution and an International Conference. This is coming at a time, the world is applauding the International Community and Iran on the successful Iran nuclear talks which has resulted in the lifting of embargo and bans on Iran and also the UN-mediated talks on Syria.

The present conflict started as far back as mid-20th century. This is also known as the World's "Most Intractable Conflict" as it has progressed further to an Arab-Israeli Conflict . While Isreal and the likes of Jordan and Egypt have reconciled , it remains to be seen when that will be the case with Palestine . The areas that are difficult to reach a compromise includes : borders, security, mutual recognition, water rights, Israeli settlements, control of Jerusalem and the Palestinian freedom of movement and right of return. The two parties are led in negotiation by Israeli Prime-Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and The Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) currently headed by Mahmoud Abbas.

The Israeli- Palestinian conflict can be traced to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when the Jews and Arab nationalist movements were trying to attain a sovereign nation for it's people in the Middle East. This further continued with the violence in Southern Levant and also the birth of Palestinian nationalism in the 1920's thus escalating to the present conflict in 1947. Also the bone of contention is the Isreal-Palestinian wall often refereed to as the "Wall of Apartheid " which was constructed by Israel and hence has exposed Palestine to many socio-economic problems which includes reduced freedom, loss of land, limited access to medical and educational services in Isreal, reduced access to water and limited economic trade.

With the this announcement from Paris, it remains to be seen if these words can be backed by action to demonstrate how France and hopefully other World Power countries are ready to put an end to the crises which has resulted in many civilian and military casualties. It is still early to predict the outcome but one only has to be optimistic.
