Workers of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, Orisun FM radio station in Ile-Ife were on Thursday attacked by students of public secondary schools in the town in protest over alleged inability of the state government to pay their external examination fees.
In their hundreds, the students who were said to be in Senior
Secondary School 3 stormed the station located at Oke-Itase in Ile-Ife around 9:00am while armed with dangerous weapons like cutlasses and clubs.
THISDAY gathered that the managements of some public secondary schools in Ile-Ife had asked the students to pay some amount of money in order to enable them sit for WAEC-conducted exams.
This did not go down well with the students who mobilized themselves
and decided to visit the station and register their grievances.
They had requested to see the Station Manager at the gate of the radio station but only four of the students were allowed into the premises to see the Manager, Mr. Adeoye Bakare who was in his office.
It was gathered that the students on getting to the manager instructed him to immediately air that the state government has refused to pay their West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees as promised during the electioneering period.http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/students-attack-osun-radio-station/231076/
