It seems Nigeria is becoming unsafe for men and women of the judiciary especially after the recent Supreme Court judgments, it is time for people to start claiming asylum until we can have a real democracy in place. 2 Likes |

Serves all of you right. The change you advocated is on your laps. When Metuh was taken to court in handcuff, they said it served him right. When Nnamdi Kanu and Dasuki were granted bail and Buhari refused to release them, they said it served them right. Now the chicken has come home to roast. Enjoy your change Yorubas! I don't want to see any Hausa/Fulani or Yoruba complain about Dictator Buhari because he is your hero 4 Likes |

NBA has finally spoken out. Thank Goodness. Now you want to talk because of Ricky. When the FG was disobeying court orders u didn't talk. When pmb was denigrating the judiciary on national media chat, u did nt talk. When Metuh was incarcerated for days without trial, u didn't talk. When oye gun called for the probe of the hallowed justices at the SC , u didn't talk. now u want to talk about Ricky. I was almost ashamed of belonging to this association. 3 Likes |

Did i hear NBA complain of lawlessness by the EFCC and Buhari"s govt? HYPOCRATES!!! Them all!!! when EFCC and Buhari was busy violating citizens rights by disregarding court rulings, they were busy interpreting the law to justify the actions of EFCC, now it is their colleague, they turn around to cry foul, who is deceiving who?, let the man face the law according to the definition of EFCC and president Buhari, chikena!!! 4 Likes |

Nonsense! so because Tarfa is a lawyer he cannot be arrested? If his hands are clean, then the NBA and it's rank of corrupt SANs should have nothing to worry The judiciary in this country can move forward if the current corrupt and greedy lawyers and judges are purged from the system If you want to defend an accused person you must have no skeleton in your cupboard |

Two days after, Ricky Tarfa gets bail Share 8 Tweet 0 Two days after, Ricky Tarfa gets bail •Tarfa •Lawyers slam EFCC Lagos lawyer, Rickey Tarfa (SAN) detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for obstruction was released last night after spending almost 48 hours in detention. Tarfa was released at 6.10 pm to the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Augustine Alegeh (SAN). Before he was released, lawyers criticised the EFCC for detaining the lawyer. Tarfa was held at the commission’s Lagos office following his arrest by the anti-graft agency at the premises of the Lagos High Court in Igbosere on Friday, following a five-hour stand-off when the EFCC attempted to re-arrest two of his clients, who were out on bail. The senior lawyer had gone to court to represent two Benin Republic nationals, Gnahouse Sonrou Nazaire and Senoue Modeste, who were standing trial before Justice Raliat Adebiyi over allegations of conspiracy, forgery and uttering. After the proceedings, the commission’s operatives attempted to re-arrest the Beninoise for a separate ongoing investigation. It was alleged that the defendants hid in Tarfa’s car from about 12 noon till about 5pm before the EFCC operatives could effect their arrest. Tarfa was also arrested for allegedly obstructing officers of the commission from performing their duties by preventing the arrest of an individual, who has a case to answer with the anti-graft agency. According to a statement from Rickey-Tarfa & Co, efforts by NBA president Austin Alegeh and more than 10 other senior lawyers to get Tarfa released to the NBA president’s custody on Saturday were not successful. “The NBA president was kept waiting in the office of EFCC from about 2:00pm till 8:00pm with no responsible official to discuss or process the bail, contrary to the assurance given to him (NBA President) by EFCC,” the statement said. Former Presidents of the NBA, Mr. Joseph Bodunrin Daudu (SAN), Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), Prof. Kanyisola Ajayi (SAN) and Chief Emeka Ngige (SAN) all condemned the detention without bail. Dauda said: “We shall consult with the president and take a united action against that at the Bar to protect the interest of Nigerian lawyers.” http://thenationonlineng.net/two-days-after-ricky-tarfa-gets-bail/ |

The dictatorial tendency of EFCC is begging for attention, the continuous detention of Ricky Tarfa without bail or arraignment should be condemned by any right thinking Nigerian. We are in grave danger if the EFCC can arrest and detain anyone without reasonable reason. The allegation against Ricky Tarfa is that he obstructed an EFCC agent while the agent was making effort to arrest his client within the court premises.Be as it may,the Nigerian Police is saddled with prosecuting offense of this nature, while the EFCC was created solely to fight financial crime. If the EFCC has any problem with Ricky Tarfa they should hand him over to the Police. |

Nigerians don't think too far, the operatives of that agency even worse. When the next government comes in and there are moves to proscribe, degrade or destroy that agency with political might out of vengance let us accept the carnage we will have caused by hailing a dancing madman with a light in a gas station. If we must succeed we must have long term perspectives to mind our actions. This is only possible with the guidance of institutions and these institutions can only be founded if the shoots grow in the soil of professionalism, equity and justice. The way the EFCC is going it is heading for the dustbin of history if it doesn't do things right and we the people will pay for it by having to start from scratch again and again. It is not there to serve individual interests or even government interests but the interests of the people who own and fund it and must reflect the ideals of the people. WAI in the 80's was a great policy and program. The reason it is not here today is that it turned against the people it was meant to serve becoming a willing tool in the hand of government so when the government fell, it fell. Wisdom in life is neither hot nor cold, it is finding the right balance. 1 Like |

Soooooo because he is a lawyer and NBA. Presido says "Release him to me , he should be released?? Lols Anyway EFCC can't hold everybody on suspicion that they will jump bail. Though I won't go as far as calling it impunity or tyranny. ,I only believe EFCC has become more aggressive and this body language is what is needed to push through reforms . |
